Tis a poll about race and our roots and how (un)important that my be to us.

In this poll i ask of us to think about if given the choice who we would prefer to live around. The first option is as follows

1. I would rather live in a town/city with people of the same colour skin even though these people speak a foreign language to me.

option
2. I prefer to live with people of the opposite colour skin and these people can speak and understand the same lingo as me.

2 seems like an obvious choice. Unless you really hate dealing with people and would prefer a place where you can't understand anyone.

Lot more to it than that. What if everyone speaks your language but they're all jerks to you? If that would be the case than I'd rather live in a place where they spoke a different language as long as they re tolerant of foreigners.

But what if the tolerant foreigners speak a language that just sounds angry, rude, and hateful?

Doesn't matter. If I had to choose between 2 groups of people that both didn't like me I'd choose the ones I couldn't understand.

However, If both groups were tolerant than someone would have to be a fool not to choose the group that spoke their language.

Not many choices to choose from, so I'll just make my own. I'd rather live in a hood where it's very diverse. My neighbor probably has one of the sweetest dispositions you ever did see...save for one small problem. She's korean and speaks very little english. She doesn't get our humor, sayings etc. It's very hard "trying" to hold a convo w/ her b/c she pretends to understand what you are saying but you can tell by her facial expressions(nodding at the wrong time) that she doesn't understand a word you are saying. That would be very frustrating if 95% of my neighbors were that way!!

Colors on opposite sides of the wheel don't compliment each other very well- they're opposites. That's why the New York Knicks Jerseys seem so damn ugly.

Good point. Which brings me to ask which society has cheaper beer prices on average? That's where I want to live

I think diversity in its utopian definition is a great idea. I think its actual appplication in real life leads to problems. It's like a lot of things: great in theory, horrible in practice. Unless you are tolerant of annoyances, which I happen NOT to be.

Please expand on "diversity in its utopian definition".

Meaning that in theory, all people of every culture, race, and economic status can co-exist without any sort of strife. In practice, that can't happen. There are some things I absolutely can't stand, the same way people everywhere shouldn't be forced to tolerate things they do not like. Generally, people of similar race, background, economic status, etc tend to group together naturally. You don't see squirrels and chipmunks sharing living quarters, even though they are similar in looks and eat the same things, do you?

The most important thing though, is no matter what color or race you are, the money is all the same color. I may not like the music that blacks generally listen to, but I won't hesitate to do business with them if the service/product they are providing meets my needs. That sort of prejudice to me is a little retarded and self-defeating. But to propose "mixed-income" properties and/or developments based on inter-racial housing without a common element...is destined to fail. There is one community in proximity to me that has, some say, successfully integrated. I am unsure how they were able to do this 20-30 years ago, but somehow there is a community (Oak Park, IL) west of chicago that is both white and black, in decent proportions, and everyone gets along. It probably has to do with the price of real estate, and the fact that so long as people keep up their property and aren't loud and obnoxious..everyone gets along. You see this fabric coming apart near Austin Avenue..where Oak Park meets the West Side of Chicago. It's startling what a difference two blocks east can make. I wonder why that is?

The "utopian" concept of diversity is not that you should like cultures other than your own and strive to be around people who practice them. It is strictly tolerance for difference and the ability to get around stupid stereotypes... also allowing people of a given race or cultural background the freedom to choose a different way of life without having people unfairly stereotype them.
And, yes, people are forced to tolerate and should be... where the term tolerate means to allow to exist without interference.
You have no right to force someone of another subculture not to live next door to you.
The problem is the implementation. It has been found that tolerance increases when people interact with those of other groups and figure out that they're not all looking to fight one another and can be decent people. Unfortunately there's the whole" You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" thing. It's impossible to legislate interaction.
