Adult citizens of a so-called free country should not need permission from their government to smoke, swallow, snort or inject any substance that they want -- especially in the privacy of their own homes.

If adult citizens are not free to choose for themselves what goes into their own bodies -- even in the privacy of their own homes, then the word freedom is meaningless.

I wish to dedicate this thread to Brian C Bennet who not only was the inspiration for the title but has worked endlessly and selflessly for the true cause of liberty. http://www.briancbennett.com

We had this discussion in the chat room just last night and I doubly concur. Plus, the so-called "war on drugs" hasn't lowered crime at all, moreover do just the opposite and cost us taxpayers even more. Think of Prohibition in the 1920's and what that did or didn't do.

Let's just legalize marijuana and other drugs and stick them in pharmacies.

It also turns otherwise law abiding citizens into felonious criminals. Now Im not advocating drug use.But this so called war on drugs is a drain on our tax dollars a burdon on our prison systems and it monopolizes are law enforcement. Not to mention the the fact that it fuels the black market economy and funds these mafia style organizations all over the world. And this so called war doesnt even began to come close to getting any of these groups leaders. They only ever get small time dealers and users or very low level grunt of these operations who know very little or nothing at all.The war on drugs supports these criminals. The drug problem in this country and around the world is the war on drugs.

P.S.We gave Afghanistan moey when they joind our war on terror.Money well spent?????

Not to mention that whether there be a war on drugs or not, people will still be on drugs one way or the other.

Exactly. If we are so concerned about the effect of drugs in this country we have to relize that this is a social problem not a political one.You dont change peoples minds by forbing it.just look at the prohibition of alcohol or abortion.People do as they see fit for them.No one wants someone comeing into their home or doctors office or where ever and telling them how or what to do.

Then we also have the majority of business's in this country teaming up with the government in the "Partnership for a drug free america"Drug testing their potential employs and random testing their current employs. All this does is keep people from being productive citizens or once again turns normaly honest folks into deceivers looking for ways to beat the tests.

What changes have come from this "War on drugs" since it went into effect????What good has come from this "Partnership for a drug free america"???It seems to me that it has only added to or created problems.

It's a huge industry employing thousands of pople with no other skills than busting in on people and ruining their lives. Not until pro-drug activists make the DEA and police the target of protests, and not the polticians who only follow public opinion, will the drug war ever end.

Politicians have much much shorter terms than law enforcement, they are in and out, and in face I doubt many individuals in the DEA or on drug force tasks feel they are contributing anything to society. They'd rather be hunting criminals with direct, real and innocent victims.

Gangs, which IMO are the biggest threat to our society, are funded through drugs. If the government were to legalize and or/decriminalize drugs, and reformed the "scheduling" of drugs, the black market which funds gangs would cease to exist. That's one major problem solved. I advocate the immediate release of any inmate charged with drug possession or intent to distribute. This would free over 1 million jail cells where violent and dangerous criminals in our society can spend the rest of their days rotting and being told when they can take a sh*t.

edit: Nico.To advocate the killing of anyone is just ignorance. All the killing of police and DEA would do is fule the fire.I have very little confidence in our system but it is OUR system and the only way to change anything is to work peaceably against it or from with in it.

i own a business and some of my folks here and I were talking about this same thing. I told my people that I do not care what they did in their homes, but if they got caught they are history.

I also do not think that the govt needs to be telling people they cannot do something in the privacy of their homes.

Personally I do not do drugs and have not in about 16 years or more, but I have no problem with the "softer" drugs. It is the hard drugs that piss me off.

The War on Drugs will be just as successful as the War on Terror... and vice versa

Both are a joke in thier mantra, and simply do nothing but help breed more dealers & terrorist, vis a vis; you take out one, and there's another ready to take thier place.

Furthermore, neither do anything to target the problem, instead, they target the symptom.

---------

There is nothing wrong drug use, it's drug abuse that is the issue. Anyone who has an issue with drugs, is nurturing a HUGE double standard, as almost everyone (99%) is addicted to one drug or another.

Btw, why do hospitals treat people with cocaine & opium, etc... Why are two of my friends on Medicinal Marijuana, legally prescribed?

Now excuse while I go fix a coffee & grab a smoke....

I'm a business owner as well. The problem is,it doesn't really matter how we feel about drugs. The Insurance Companies are the one's demanding test so our employee's can be insured.Look into how all this testing started and by whom.Interesting.One of the main players in this is a man named Carlton Turner.

Actually my policy at the business is as follows and I take this right from my rule book for employees:
section1a:
If you use an illegal drug or consume alcohol at your place of employment you will be terminated from further employment. If you indulge in recreational useage in the privacy of your home that is your private business. It is not the business of this company, however if you are injured on the job you will be required to take a urinalysis test. If it comes back positive and you contest you will be afforded a second test at the vompanies expense, and if it is positive then you will be terminated from further employment.

section1b:
If you consume alcohol at home it is again none of the companies business and if you report to work under the influence of alcohol or drugs or any illegal substance you will be sent home and told to report to the CEO's office at 8:00 AM the next day.....

You get the general idea. I do not care what a person does as long as it is not affecting their work performance or their familes. I have an entire assistance program that I have made available at no expense for those that need help with drug and alcohol problems.
The fact that I take a tough stand on this and do not pry into their lives has made me apparently a pretty good boss to those that work with me.

Hell, I even went so far as to tell my employees that if they are stopped and arrested for DUI or DWI I had better find out about it before the media does. That has been a pretty good thing all in all.

But all of my employees also know that if they bring drugs to work they are going to jail. I have locked 3 people up in 5 years.

lilwolf,What kinda business are in in? And your policy seems fair except for one thing you do relize that a person can test positive for certain drugs and still not be under their influence?

I'm in favor of legalizing drugs, but not for ideological reasons. I think that history-- not to mention our current crime and healthcare statistics-- simply demonstrates that Prohibition is bad policy.

Only drug issue I have an ideological stand on is abolishing prescription requirements for purchasing medicine.
