That says it all. Being economically self-sufficient is really the definition of the poverty line.

I might also add that government could create a society for the poor that didn't require a more substantial income. Having a place where people had access to public transportation, cheap rent and health care would work. Teaching people how to live on potatoes, corn, rice and stuff would make affordable substantial meals.

But NO! Lets give them more competition with the suppressive government monopolies of China. Let's make more Chinese billionaires at the expense of the poor American. Let's export even the jobs away that would provide self-sufficiency.

give us a definition of poverty b/c im sure "poverty" in america is nothing like poverty in africa.

I don't even let someone rent my $800/month one bedroom apartment unless they make 3 times that amount after taxes. The last time I tried, I was stuck with a woman that never paid and was not evictible due to a baby. In Massachusetts, the courts won't let you evict easily/quickly and the public assistance programs won't pick up the person for years. It is a crappy pseudo social "program". Yet one more reason why I want to disconnect from the American government.
