There is no hope to save Iraq and stop the bloodbath unless politicians "realize there are no winners or losers in this battle," he said, speaking to reporters at the Political Council for the National Security.

Iraqi leader: Only politicians can end nation's bloodbath
Quote: They urged the country's Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish politicians to stop fanning sectarian violence by arguing with one another, the AP reported.

A government spokesman read the statement on national television, surrounded by al-Maliki, a Shiite; Parliament speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, a Sunni; and President Jalal Talabani, a Kurd, the AP said.

The pressure on al-Maliki has increased since the massacre in mainly Shiite Sadr City and revenge attacks on Sunnis.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, center,
visits Baghdad's Sadr City Sunday,
where at least 200 people were killed on Thursday.

Well, at least he had the decency to visit the area.
Unlike a certain President who only flew over a devastated area.

President George W Bush flew over New Orleans to see the damage

I doubt there is much we can do there to stop what's going on. The real solution to almost all the problems in the ME right now, is the one stated by Iraq's Prime Minister....there really is no solution, and continuing upon this course will lead to nothing good; you have to drop it. And the politicians are needed to stop pushing their separate views, but the people are needed too. They all have to learn to drop it, and there is nothing the US can force upon them to make them do so. We were never able to be the ones to bring peace and democracy to the ME...their people have to do it for themselves, and understand what being free really means.

Yeah but, one must keep up their image of a Liberal War/Military hating Pinko-Commi Bush hating citizen.

Seriously though, Bush couldn't be bothered to assist those of his own nation in a time of crisis.
Maliki walks right into the war zone.

Comparison of Leadership style is relevent, IMO

Its really quite accurate. The only thing he left out is that both Dems and Republicans would have done the exact same insulting thing.

Quote: Gore Airlifts Victims from New Orleans
Al Gore helped airlift some 270 Katrina evacuees on two private charters from New Orleans, acting at the urging of a doctor who saved the life of the former vice president's son.

Gore criticized the Bush administration's slow response to Katrina in a speech Friday in San Francisco, but refused to be interviewed about the mercy missions he financed and flew on September 3 and 4.
