Well, if the USA isn't the best country anymore, then who is? Also, if America is no longer so great, then why are people still fleeing to this country like lemmings from all over the world? If we removed all quotas and limits on immigration, I bet we would have ten million people a year immigrating into the USA.

Also, you want to talk about nations whose time has come and gone, they would be in Europe. The had the best infrastructure and the best socio-welfare net in the world as well as the world's best workers benefits, but they are seriously lagging behind in economic productivity and are also the fastest aging countries in the world.

Japan is currently an economic powerhouse. But Japan also has a rapidly aging population which is also declining. In order to sustain that productity as well as offset exploding health care and retirement costs, Japan would have to import more workers and become a more hetero-genous society.

If anyone can challenge the USA economically and militarly, that would be China and India. Of course India would have to get its act together economically. But India is planting the seeds of the future as India turns our scientists and engineers like Toyota turns out cars!

Well then its not so great that the forecast for military conflict has us fighting China in the next 20 years, and in term of immigrants, they come here from Mexico and Latin America b/c we are better than those countries, is that really something to be proud of?

But why does it have to be in absolutes. I expect Americans to nominate America. I expect Canadians to name Canada.. Australians...Australia and so forht.

A lot of it is purely cultural - When I was over there, I saw things that were very clever. Things I thought - is this the best you have. Undoubtedly if you came to Australia you would have much the same reaction.

People wanting to immirgate to your country cant be a gauge either. Most of the people wanting to immigrate are trying to leave badly disadavantged countries. The US with 300 million and area the size of Australia can take larger numbers than Australia.

A better comparrison would be the number of applications as expressed as a percentage of a country. Example US 300 million. Thirty million trying to get in - gives you 10%

Australia 30 million with 1.5 million apllicants gives us 5% See my point?

You know, what I think I missed was a human being with a fourth grade reading level, who is capable of performing such tasks as writing a sentence in the form of a question, and using punctuation and capitalization.

Ok, let's put it into context.

Being the greatest doesn't mean you have to be first in every category. Nor does it mean comparing a subcategory against another nation as a baseline. Being the greatest is having a country that everyone wants to come to instead of getting away from.

If things are that bad here, as you seem to think, then tell us why.
