|
|
I have two kids and one computer. I have a profile (mine is the Admin account and the only one that can download) and each of my kids have their own.
My question is this: If I delete both of their profiles, are their files still accessible and if so, then I have to go in and remove them each manually?
Yes I realize this is something probably everyone else on this green earth knows already.. but I don't. So don't give me any crap. |

I don't have much experience with that feature as I don't have anyone to share with and wouldn't either. I hate sharing.
As an administrator you should be able to move their files to your account and then delete their accounts. |

I don't want to.. that's the problem. I don't want to sit here and go through every single file and manually remove it.. I just would like to be able to delete their profiles and either have the OS move those files to the general admin account or delete them all.
They couldn't download anything, so the only things they had on there were games they loaded from CD... I'm just lazy and don't want to have to maintain three seperate accounts is the thing. I'm going to consolidate both of theirs to ONE and then of course, keep mine.
I don't like sharing either.. but I can't afford another computer for them to use. |

When they did those installs it usually asks to make it accessible to all accounts or only their account, so if you don't see those games on your account then they chose their account only. Choose the account with the most stuff and delete the other, or let them do all the installs over.
The files will be deleted if they are account specific when you delete the account. |

Some newer games will create a user profile those would have to be replaced, but the game should do this automatically at start up, other than that you should be fine |

The way a profile is set up in Windows XP is that it creates a directory under the user name, called 'documents' or 'my documents'. So let's say your child's name is John Smith. If you look at your directory structure through Explorer, (just right click on your start button and then go to Explorer. Then go to your child's profile. You should see a directory in their called "documents" or "My Documents" If your kids saved their document in this directory, you can just copy the entire directory to where ever you want. But this directory will be deleted when you delete the user profile. If they saved their documents in another directory under their profile, all you have to do is copy the directory to another location before you delete their profile. |

| If I'm not mistaken it prompts you to decide whether to save the files or not when you delete a profile. |

Move their files into the shared doccuments folder. Highlight all the files (some keyboard shortcut that I do not know) and right click and go to send to shared doccuments.
Odds are that you are trying to change the password, or change another account setting. If you do not know how to move files, then you probably do not know how to change this or that on the accounts. If I am correct, then tell me because I do not want to tell you how if I am wrong. |
