I don't know if it was me or someone else who suggested it, but last time I was here a Linguistics/World Language Forum was discussed and it never took off.

How does everyone feel about that now?

Linguistics/World Language Forum for discussion:

about foreign languages
in foreign languages
language and communication in culture
language used by politicans/media
literature
orthography
phonetics
syntax

PCF has such an international feel, with posters from around the world discussing world politics, why not a forum about world languages?

I love linguistics, but I'm not sure if it's relevant enough to be in a political discussion board...

It's a societal/academic topic, PCF is full of those:

Philosophy Forum
Historical Events
Religion
Environmental
Scientific

Those aren't directly related to politics either.

Linguistics is a very broad subject.

Yeah but all of those are hot topics in politics. Now, Chomsky is a linguist and he's heavy into politics, but that's just circumstantial. If you can convince me that linguistics is relevant, though (and that there is sufficient demand to warrant a new forum), then by all means we would seriously consider it.

What about Orwellian Newspeak and Political Correctness?

Anyway, I guess I should garner up support for it... should have made a poll...
