Safe traveling for all, and thanks to all those who make Thanksgiving special.

Thanks to my mom for all the real-silver-and-crystal Thanksgivings that I took for granted until I tried to create one myself. Four years now, but I just can't get it all together. LOL, and all those years I made the trip "over the river and through the woods," I thought the various dishes I stayed up all night to cook and all the prettily arranged relish and dip trays made a dent in the real work.

OMG, no. For those of you who'll read this tonight and tomorrow, here's my tip: Ask the people in the kitchen (especially those who also work outside the home) if you can make a last-minute trip to the grocery store for them. Keep taking the garbage out without being asked.

Most of all, enjoy the delicious food and all the work that went into it--which you won't appreciate either until you too try to do it all yourself!

And celebrate all the quirks of your various family members and friends, including good old Uncle Joe, who drinks too much, passes out with his feet on the coffee table, and farts in his sleep. Soon enough, these will all be memories, and you'll be trying to create your own Thanksgiving traditions. (Me, the day is coming when if Pizza Hut is open, I'm going to vote for pizza and a movie!)

You couldn't be more right, Lumina.

I was a baking fool today, baking this, baking that - my husband comes in, and out of the freaking blue, he offers to do dishes.

I looked at him like he'd lost his mind, and before he changed his mind, I said, "SUUUUUUURE you can do dishes!"

He did them, and then told me that anytime I needed him to do dishes, to call him, and he'd do a load for me while a pie was in the oven, etc.

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

I took him up on that offer 3 times today.

I hope he hasn't regained his senses tomorrow.

I'm about to swoon, LOL!

Please report back to let me know if, in fact, pod-people took your sweetie away and substituted an alien in his place!

Yes, I am too. Nobody knows what the future holds, including tomorrow, but as I type, my kids are alive and safe, I had enough money to buy a turkey and all the fixin's, and I don't have to go to work. And I still aspire, although I will again not reach the goal this year, to someday carve radish "rosebuds" that nobody eats but which look just gorgeous on a relish tray!

Hmm..... pod people. Haven't thought about that. I'll let you know after dinner tomorrow. If he is standing there, protecting that turkey drumstick with a crazed look in his eye, and carrying around an entire pumpkin pie under his arm, then I'll know it's him and not a pod person.

Ya know, I'm not that industrious, to do a rosebud radish.

I usually go ALL out on Thanksgiving, cooking for two full days.

Funny thing is, (and don't tell my kids) - I love to play the martyr.

I'll step out of the kitchen with flour all over my apron, my hair askew, and acting like I just ran a triathalon, but I wouldn't have this any other way.

I actually love cooking for two days, and I love how my family looks forward to it.

I am thankful, most of all, for my parents.

Thanking my parents, for... well... the way they raised me. I never realized it until I moved away to college, but were it not for how my parents raised me, I would not have become the person I am today. Were it not for them, I would never have learned to walk, and, more importantly, learned to walk on my own. It is because of them that I have life, and because of them that I am the way I am today. Because of them, I am able to control my life, and achieve anything. It is because of them that I can face the world with confidence. It is because of them that I can work, and think, for myself. And, it is because of them that I know how to love, for they brought me into this world, and showed me true, unconditional love.

It is because of them that I am the man I am today.

Thank you mom and dad, for everything.

With my eternal love,
your son

 Perfect timing. Two Thanksgivings ago, my stove died, right at the end of cooking my meal.

I was just finishing up the vegetables, and it just died. I was angry that it died, but happy that if it had to die, it died when it did, and not 1 hour into my turkey.

I'm thankful for those whose vision of freedom led to this country. I'm thankful for those who have lived and died defending it, and for those who are living and dying defending it now. I'm thankful for friends and family present and departed for making my life livable.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on PCF. :tu:
