I know TOP said "songs" but for me the most evocative pieces of music are Elgar's Cello Concerto and the Lacrimosa from Mozart's Requiem.
For songs:
Under The Bridge
Tears In Heaven
Objects int the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are. |

Murder Song by The Cooper Temple Clause
Please believe me when I say
This is how it has to end
This is easy on us all
Well easier than other ways
Sleep is all I ask of you
Sleep and not to wake again
See this through and leave my friend
Tears will come and I will end
Somehow this gets to me every time.
I'm going to have to listen to it when I get home from work. |

| Big Rock Candy Mountain. I can't believe I forgot this in my original post but this song is so depressing and sad. But in a good way... |

Because the crickets on soon: Jerusalem
Quote: And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England’s mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England’s pleasant pastures seen?
And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among those dark Satanic Mills?
Bring me my Bow of burning gold;
Bring me my Arrows of Desire;
Bring me my Spear; O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of Fire!
I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand,
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England’s green and pleasant Land. |

Two that touch me about Australia
Great Southern Land - Ice House
Standing at the limit of an endless ocean
stranded like a runaway, lost at sea
city on a rainy day down in the harbour
watching as the grey clouds shadow the bay
looking everywhere 'cause I had to find you
this is not the way that i remember it here
anyone will tell you its a prisoner island
hidden in the summer for a million years
Great Southern Land, burned you black
so you look into the land and it will tell you a story
story 'bout a journey ended long ago
if you listen to the motion of the wind in the mountains
maybe you can hear them talking like I do
". . they're gonna betray, they're gonna forget you
are you gonna let them take you over this way . ."
And My Island Home - Christine Anu
I come from the salt water people
We always live by the sea
They say home is where you find it
Will this place ever satisfy me
Six years I have lived in the desert
Every night I dreamt of the sea
Now i'm down here living in the city
With all of my family
In the evening dry wind blows
From the hills and across the plains
I close my eyes and I'm standing
In a boat on the sea again
And I'm holding that long turtle spear
And i feel i'm close now to where it must be
My island home is waiting for me
My home is Australia
We are a land bound by sea
Though I may travel far across the ocean
It will never forget me |

Yes! :tu:
Beautiful song, indeed.
I dunno about "emotion-provoking", but this song really kicks it for me. |

Any artists in particular? Well, if you like something fast like the piece I showed you, there's Amr Diab, Ragheb Alame, among others. If you like classical, there's always Fairuz. But I recommend Amr Diab for starters. |

| I must be out of touch. I haven't heard of most of the groups listed here. Hmmm...maybe a sign of getting old? |
