Seeing as it's a few minutes until our two minute silence in work, I thought I'd drop a quick thread to all the other Europeans out there.

Where have we come since the end of the Great War? As a continent have we acheived what was best from the situations we have ended up in through the last century?

When I consider it I am amazed at the strength and co-operating that has emerged between the european countries. The fact that following World Wars 1 & 2 we have reached stages past simple economic relationships, such as monetary union for those that wish to apply, to me is a testament to the European spirit.

Sure, there is baiting and moments of disharmony, but to turn round 60 years ago from the brink of the abyss to where we are today, prosperous and free, is something we should be proud of, but more importantly, thankful for those whose sacrifice ensured our safety.

Gee I dont know. I guesss everthing worked fine for the British after the world wars but for the czechs - i dont know. Shortly after WWI german occupation came (Munich conference - thanks guys!!). Towards the end of WWII the West left us for dead and thus prepared ground for the cold war - thanks again!! 40 years of misery followed and now we are still trying to catch up with the rest. But certain spoiled european countries wont let us work on their markets despite the fact we are in the eu - thanks germany and austria!!
