I heard that the most cost effective way for Border Security is to place Landmines on the Border between the United States and Mexico, would this greatly curb illegal immigration?

I think we should forgoe the landmines and just go straight to nukes. I think that would most likely curb illegal immigration for the unforseeable future.

I thought the point of border security was to keep out illegal immigrants and terrorists, not blow people up. I think we could curb both with a simple policy:

Turn in an illegal immigrant and gain a greencard. Once you hit ten, you get citizenship.

Turn in a terrorist you get a greencard, expose a cell and you get citizenship.

Unless our main objective is to be cost effective (which is shouldn't be), landmines are not the solution.

It was mostly a joke, yes. The point is that we can look at solutions that don't include shooting, maiming, killing, imprisoning, or otherwise harming those people crossing our borders. Violence should always be a last resort, but we consistantly make it our primary policy.

There are some problems which must be solved with force, but not nearly as many as some Americans would like to believe.

If we heavily nuke the entire length of the border, then we could effectively curb illegal immigration for thousands of years.

I like that a wall isn't a violent solution in and of itself, however, it is expensive and ineffective.

If an illegal immigrant wants to get into this country they will find a way, wall or no wall. Cubans still immigrate to the US illegally and they have an ocean to traverse. How difficult would it be for illegals to start crossing from Mexico via the gulf or the pacific ocean?

Additionally, while it is a passive force, a wall is still force. When the illegals start finding ways around or under the fence, the solution will be to increase force and take proactive measures to keep the illegals well behind the wall.

I myself am pro-immigration through legal means as well. I have no problem at all stopping illegal immigrants, however, it is deplorable to consider violent means prior to the consideration of peaceful means. Our businesses still offer jobs to illegal immigrants. It is the equivalent of putting a sign on your house that says "Please Come In" and then shooting anyone who does so for tresspassing.
