Getting money from Google hopefully will be a big boost. Now if plugins can gleen some of the noteriety from Google and get their technology into the heads of average everyday Joe's we can expect to see some momentum. :crsd:
Quote: Philanthropy Google’s Way: Not the Usual
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 13 — The ambitious founders of Google, the popular search engine company, have set up a philanthropy, giving it seed money of about $1 billion and a mandate to tackle poverty, disease and global warming.
But unlike most charities, this one will be for-profit, allowing it to fund start-up companies, form partnerships with venture capitalists and even lobby Congress. It will also pay taxes.
One of its maiden projects reflects the philanthropy’s nontraditional approach. According to people briefed on the program, the organization, called Google.org, plans to develop an ultra-fuel-efficient plug-in hybrid car engine that runs on ethanol, electricity and gasoline. |

I think hydrogen has got a LLLOOOOT of time before it hits the street even with aftermarket companies. Pluggin's are already hitting the street with some aftermarket conversion companies and Diamler Chrysler has a test fleet already on the streets.
I want a small vehicle pluggin hybrid diesel. I may have to wait a while. Then I'd throw in some B-100 (actually B-99 from the local distributor here in Phoenix) and I'll kiss fossil fuels goodbye. The Diamler-Chrysler fleet is the Sprinter van and is a diesel pluggin but it's a bit large for personal use for me as a daily commuter. |

IMHO, hydrogen is an impractical technology, at least until a method to store it at a reasonable pressure is available. Currently, to be practical, hydrogen has to be stored at around 5000 PSI. I don't want to travel in a car that has a tank of high pressure flammable gas. Now, if an alternative storage system is developed, then I might go for hydrogen over the hybrid. |
