Apparently there has been a problem with some middle school aged children and vandalism, coming mainly in the form of graffiti.

My questions:
Is it ok to put up cameras that watch the general public every moment in the name of safety?
And are nuisance. crimes a threat to public safety that should warrant such an action?

Personally as to my first question Im not sure.I dont like the idea of being watched every second of my life but at the same time if I lived in an area where serious or dangerous crimes were accuring I could see myself in favor of using them.
But I dont think 11-15 year olds writing dirty words or silly expressions on a cement wall, picnic table, or trash can is something to get all in a tizzy over.

What are your thoughts?

Well there are cameras being built in my city, but then even when a crime does happen the criminal doesn't usually get caught unless there's a cop present. I'm kind of against it for the most,

Thanx for the spelling tips.

Sorry for being patronising, it shouldn't bother me, but it does. Something about sloppy writing being the precursor to sloppy thinking.

Don't take my word for it though.

I personally don’t think you have anything to apologize for Chymical. This kind of sloppiness bothers me as well. I have a hard time taking the points seriously when they're presented in such a fashion. Maybe I'm just old school like that.

The more pertinent question is: By what right could you tell me that I can't record anything I want in a public place? If I, a private citizen can take out my camera and record things, why would law enforcement not be allowed to? Would you prefer legislation spelling out who and what can be recorded and when? You could probably get pointers on drafting such a bill from North Korea or China.

Recording an event is just a technological extension of witnessing it. What you're speaking of outlawing is memory.

I wasnt speaking of outlawing anything.I was simply asking if petty vandalism was worthy of wireing a town with cameras.I also stated that I thought they may be useful where more serious crimes take place.

Who cares if they can't track everybody? If anyone can be tracked, everyone's lost some privacy.

Well thank goodness your here to let me know how I should think and write.Honestly I dont even know how you brought yourself to answer such a poorly written and poorly thought out thread and post.Next time just do yourself the favor and skip right on by anything written by me.I wouldnt want to contaminate your clearly intelligent mind with my sloppy thoughts.

well cry me a river sweetpea...

Who told you how to think and write? Wasn't me was it? you think whatever your little mind desires, and write however you wish, just tighten up on your English and you'll be fine. When someone doesn't know the difference between 'accept' and 'except', and furthermore makes schoolboy errors between 'their', 'there' and 'they're', then I do feel jusified in lending their arguments less credence they they would have otherwised recieved.

Bottom line, if you can't be bothered to express yourself clearly, don't be surprised if people have no idea what your going on about.

Did you read Orwell's argument btw? It's obvious from your bovine response that you would not entirely agree with his premise that sloppy writing leads to sloppy thinking, however I don't see a thoughtful or well-worded rebuttal of his arguments.

Take your time...

Well, combined with the fact that there is no expectation of privacy in public, means the issue on this, IMHO, isn't civil liberties but waste of money. Personally, I think the whole things a waste of money. I haven't heard of any crimes solved by the use of government surveillance cameras.

Good point - it's helped make an awful lot of sh*t and cheap TV shows, though:

"When Muggers Attack"; "When Shoplifters Attack"; "Police Camera Action" etc etc etc

Look I book marked your the link you set up.No time to read it now.
I am an awful speller and even worse the use of grammar. I am aware and am currently in an English class.Plus using the computer daily helps as well.Regardless I do try to think out my statements.I dont think a misspelled word or an improperly placed comma is stopping anyone from understanding my meaning and intent.Im sorry it offends you.

No offence at all, and sorry if was a dic about it...if your spelling/grammer was any worse then it would make a difference to your comprehendability, but it's fine and best of luck in school and getting an 'A' in English, if I can be of any assistance at any time just PM me...

Apologies for the derailment to your fine thread as well, let's speak no more of it.
