I asked this question in one of the draft threads and it was ignored, so I'll pose it on it's own.

From the Military Selective Service Act...

Sec. 453. Registration

(a)

Except as otherwise provided in this title (sections 451 to 471a of this Appendix) it
shall be the duty of every male citizen of the United States, and every other male
person residing in the United States, who, on the day or days fixed for the first or
any subsequent registration, is between the ages of eighteen and twenty-six, to
present himself for and submit to registration at such time or times and place or
places, and in such manner, as shall be determined by proclamation of the
President and by rules and regulations prescribed hereunder. The provisions of this
section shall not be applicable to any alien lawfully admitted to the United States as
a nonimmigrant under section 101(a)(15) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as
amended (66 Stat. 163; 8 U.S.C. 1101), for so long as he continues to maintain a
lawful nonimmigrant status in the United States.

Would you or have you registered?

Yes for two reasons.

1. It's the law.

2. You can't get any federal or state financial aid for college without doing so.

I applied for financial aid, I had to register.

If we engage in a conflict reminiscint of WWII, i'd join up, but if its anything politcaly motivated like Nam, Korea, or Iraq... I'll be eating canadian bacon for a looong time... i'm not far from the border.

If the middle east starts a conflict with the US or Israel, count me in... if WE start the conflict, I'm blowing this hot-dog stand.

just find menonite doctor who'll say your knees are blown.........but the selective service is important because we need it for WW2 type senerios.

If the s**t hits the fan for what-ever reason the country needs to be able mobilize as quickly as possible......

Korea was politically motivated?

well, I think we'd all agree the Korean conflict lacked the stakes of the second world war..........we should register simply because the stakes may be that high again some-day.

the speed at which a society mobilizes can effect the outcome of a war.......(google Franco-Prussian war).

No, I wouldn't. I wouldn't give a sh*t what happened to me if I didn't, either. I'd rather go down in a hail of gunfire against the government then against some brown people I don't have any beef with halfway across the world

I know. But if my country does have a draft it's going to be hard to dodge it. You americans only have to cross the border. If we had a draft, I'd have to cross the ocean and make my way over to switzerland or something
