Here are the 3 matchups to watch....
Matt Hughes - Georges St. Pierre
Tim Sylvia - Jeff Monson
Brandon Vera - Frank Mir
Matt got exposed in his standup against Penn last fight to lets see if Pierre can avoid the take down for his best chance. If it goes to the ground it should result in a Matt Hughes victory. If it doesnt and not often enough Matt could be in for a bad night.
The Heavy weight division is by far the worst division in terms of depth. Tim Sylvia is a very good fighter but he is not a gifted athlete. Jeff Monson should put up a good fight barring a quick hit from Sylvia. Im actually looking forward to this one.
Ive seen Vera fight in person a number of times here in San Diego as i use to train at the same club (at the time "Boxing Club", he is now at "City Boxing"). I have very little doubt that Vera will take out Mir as Mir has looked like a sloppy mess his last 2 fights. Still i always look forward to seeing what Vera can do.
Let the fights begin! |

I can't wait. I can't wait for this. God. God I can't wait for this tonight.
I told my friends over a month ago, that I couldn't do anything on this weekend.
Vera I think will defeat Mir. Mir, after his accident, has simply not been the same fighter. Vera is on a tear in the HW division, and I think he might be what they say he is, one of the next big things. Mir has been nothing but a sloppy gob of goo. Slow, terrible cardio, and rusty skills. He said he's completely back. Yeah right Frank. Vera will overwhelm him, but it will be a decent fight.
Sylvia vs Monson. I hate seeing the belt on Sylvia. I hate it. But Sylvia is a bad matchup for Monson. Don't blink, you might miss this one. Sylvia by KO in seconds. It won't last long.
Hughes vs Peirre. A f***ing barburner. A f***ing train wreck waiting to happen. I hope to god, that Peirre wips that goddamn smug arrogant smirk off that backward slackjawed hick's face. I don't like Matt Hughes.
Matt is very dominate at this weight. Unstoppable. But here stands before him a man capable of standing toe to toe with him. Peirre has the standup. But I don't know if he can't keep it on the feet. On the ground, Hughes is good, but he is not a god. Peirre is also a master on the ground. A jujitsu monster. But Matt's Power is overwhelming. Just....over...whelming.
Hughes gets it...somehow, someway. I don't know how. But he'll do it. Unfortunately. |

OK, I found out that GSP did a head kick, and caught Hughes flush, then pounced on him.
What was Hughes doing standing up with GSP? That's not too bright.
I had a feeling that GSP was going to win when i watched the prefight training. The guy is quick, well rounded, and in the best shape of any fighter I've seen. |

Awwwll MAn it was spectacular!!
My voice is still hurting from last night.
Okay, so they go out there, and just like you read, Hughes tried to box with him. Well, The thing is, Hughes always goes for his big takedowns from the clinch or his big slams...
Well...
This is one man Hughes by God wasn't going to slam.
Not just because I don't like Hughes, but honestly, the man had no offense. Pierre simply pointed on him at will. Hughes being a pure wrestler pretty much...finally realized he really needed some standup. He couldn't get in for that precious takedown. Finally, at one point, it goes to the ground. Dosn't matter. Pierre is every bit the equal the Hughes on the ground it looks like. Hughes, once again, can do nothing. Hughes struggles. He can do nothing. Pierre lands a stinging leg kick to the thigh, and Matt goes down and grabs his nads like it was a ball shot. Ref gives him some time to recover. Then, when back up, Pierre lands another awesome thigh kick, and Hughes, trying to get an Oscar I think, grabs his balls again and flops on the ground like a fish, looking at the Ref with huge eyes, looking al around like "WTF, disqualify him!!" The kick was like 3 inches from his nads, but he's acting like it racked him. Hughes is a Drama Queen.
Anyway, end of round one, Peirre comes in for a crushing hook, and Puts Hughes down with it, Hughes is rocked HARD...and Peirre goes in for the finish...but....
Its too late. Once again, Hughes is saved by the bell. End of round. Again. During the rest period, they show Hughes in the corner. He's dumbfounded. Doesn't know what the hell to do. He's scared now. He's telling his corner.."Talk to me..talk to me...."
But there is nothing they can do. They have come across a man...who is simply too much. Simply...Pierre is just too much man for Hughes to handle.
Round two begins....And Pierre Explodes. His scintillating intensity from the first round, stepped to an even high level. He's practicing boxing on Matt's face. Matt's face is becoming a bag of swelled mess. It doens't look like the same guy out there. He's getting manhandled. "If only...if only I could take him down" he is thinking. But he can't. His slams, his takedowns, his ground game....worthless against the power of Pierre.
Then finally, in a moment seemingly frozen in time...as the crowd almst seems to quell at the right moment in anticipation, in the midst of a seemingly normal flurry of punches from Pierre, out of nowhere, his left legs shoots up into a beautiful arch...and a helpless Hughes stands with his head waiting for it, and in what looked like a train wreck, Peirres kick lands flawless...
CRACK!!!!!!!!!
It sounded like a goddamn 2x4 Broke in half. It sounded like a Shotgun went off in the arena. The horrific sound of bone hitting flesh...and George St. Peirre's kick had hit it's mark in dramatic fashion.
Matt's body turned off. His eye's rolled into the back of his head...and his face went slack...his body, like a bag of meat...flopped onto the ground and lolled into a heap...
But Peirre wasn't finished...He jumped into poor Hughes and Mauled him like a rabid badger. You couldn't see his arms. They were punching and elbowing Matt's ruined face relentlessly, Matt's arms flopping around at his side like wet noodles...his body now only a husk. Finally, it was over...The ref...saving Matt's life...Pulled the mightly, the increcibel George St. Peirre off of Hughes...it was over..
George "RUSH" St. Peirre Was the New Welterweight Champion of the world.
I was in heaven. |

I was in heaven. Weakest fight I've ever seen and GSP didn't even do that good. Quite pathetic on both parts. Hughes tried to take GSP to the ground twice and each time it wasn't even like he wanted to shoot it was just a knee jerk reaction..
Penn would have rocked GSP....
GSP won't have the belt for over two matches....
Hughes was an idiot and tried to stand up when he can't stand up. This victory was nothing to brag about...
P.S. Hughes got kicked square in the nuts twice. How well would you fight....And did any see that Hughes looked tiny for this fight? |

:-D :-D :-D :-D
How'd you like that LetsGetReal... How'd you like that. Yo' Boy Matt Got his ass WHOOPED!!!.
BOOYA!!
Hey? Hey why wasn't he acting all big and bad after the fight huh? Why wasn't he talking about "His Power" and "Shouldn't have been in the ring with me.." Why didn't he do that this time??
Oh yeah...he got his ass whipped.
God it felt good to see this. He had it coming. His bragging days are over. This "Matt Hughes is the best" is done.
Kicked in the balls my ass. Matt Hughes should submit his nomination for an emmy. I've never seen acting like that. Gimme a break. Drama Queen. Kicks landed literally 2-3 inches from his nads.
Everyone knows GSP performace was simply too sharp. Face it LetsGetReal , face it, yo' Boy is too one dimensional. Cletus the slackjawed 'rassler ( ) has no stand up, and it cost him his belt.
Pierre performed like a superstar. Everyone knows this, and is saying this. Just a bad night for Hughes and LetsGetReal. Last night was my payback for the B.J. Penn and Gracie fights. :-D
Hoorah!! |

I don't see why people are still into pro boxing when you have UFC.... UFC is just plain awesome compared to boxing.
Anyone watch Gracie get desroyed on his "return"? |

Like a superstar...
Were you watching the fight? Matt basically gave him the fight and not that Pierre won it or because he so called whooped anything. Guaranteed Pierre will lose the belt within two fights hes not that good.
Pierre is a lack luster boxer, Hughes was just worse.... |

I know this hurts, but yeah, there's not really a lot you can say about this one. You've really got nothing here. The reason it looked like Matt "gave" him the fight was because he was helpless against a younger, faster, more well rounded fighter. The truth hurts. I doubt Hughes, who trains full-time and puts enormous resources into this, with many thousands of dollars and potential future worth as a fighter, is doing so simply so he can "give away" fights.
The man gave it his all, and got tooled because he has no stand up, and his only hope, his takedowns, failed.

Simply anger speaking. Everyone know, and it is a universal consensus that Pierre is a great fighter and the future of the division. He's the best 170 in the world, hands down. Matt just got exposed. |

Matt shot twice ....Yes he really fought his fight. Gave it his all... You really need to step an inch or two away from Pierre's nuts. The only fight hes going to win next is ver Sera .
Pierre landed a couple punches, two kicks to the nuts, and one to kick to the head not really something to brag about. |

Well, after getting two takedowns stuffed so resoundingly, he was probably at least smart enough to realize it wasn't going to work. I think Peirre scared him, seriously. They were saying on Sherdog that between the rounds, Matt was saying to his corner, literally in desperation "Pat, help me."
It wasn't that Matt didn't try. No, it was that matt literally didn't know what to do against this man.

No. There is only one man at 170 who can defeat the might Peirre...and that is.."THE PRODIGY!!"

Pretty sad then on Matt's part if that's all it took to put him down. |

| It was sad and sherdog is so reliable . So resoundingly,. The way you describe it Pierre would be 7'11" 410 lbs of pure muscle vs the 85lb Matt Hughes. Hughes two take downs weren't even real shoots but knee jerk reactions to a missed attempt and then he tried to make up for it. Matt needs to learn to not try to box and take the game to the ground and either beat to submission or do an actual submission. His wet dream to be a boxer cost him the title.. |

This is what I've been trying to tell you. Dude aint that good.
The slackjawed 'rassler, when he can't take his guy down, has nothing left to rely on. Why didn't he do more takedowns? Why didn't he just try to take Pierre down? It's just that easy...isnt' it? It's easy to ask why from behind a keyboard. When you're fighting professional fighters in front of millions however, I suspect it's quite a bit more difficult than that. |
