An unessential liberty...now there's a poll for you.
What would you define as "essential" and "unessential"?

Liberty cannot be divided.

The question is "which restrictions are essential?".

No legislation against abortion, no legislation against homosexual marriage, no Patriot Act, no unwarranted arrests, and no national ID cards...

Wow... how restricting!

No. I like my essential liberties too much.

Even with the risk of terrorism?
Even with the risk of Klingons and Romulans invading.

What about the Gorn?

Or Cardassians?

Or Dominion!?

Or Borg!?!

Oh, dear God, what about the Borg!?!
OMG the Borg!
If the Borg were invading, I would support a military dictatorship. Anything to keep the Borg from assimilating us.

They didn't move them to Syria, they moved them to the gamma quadrant! It all makes sense now!

Exactly!

... and that's why we need to keep Bush as dictator for life, so he will still be around to fight against the Borg when we finally reach the Gamma Quadrant, and put an end to the War on Borg... er... Terror.

Yeah showing a flag and honoring everyone who died at the twin towers is real "cheesy." Sorry for loveing my country and honoring my firefighters who lost their lives on 9-11.

How do you libs win any elections?? This is all I hear from you people! Why are you patriotic? Why are you showing firefighters? Why are you Showing a flag? boo hoo wha wha.

I guess you would be more comfortable if I showed and Al Qaeda Flag with Osamas face?

Don't even dare to attack my link seeing it comes from a very conservative website.

Not making the government bigger/globalization? yeah, right...

Perhaps you can explain it since your from Texas. I don't know why he singed it why don't you go ask him.

I'm not Tony Snow. In fact I disagree on many things George Bush does. And if that helped outsourcing and bigger govt/globalization then I am against it. I take it my fellow conservatives on that site were against it as well. Good for them.

nahh. I like the lyrics but Ashcroft's singing is just to unbearable. I would prefer something more like this:

As far as I'm concerned, Liberty and Security are directly proportional, as one rises the other rises. In a place with no Liberty, there is no security, only pseudo-Security.

i cannot honestly answer.

if there was a big enough threat i might consider it. but then again, that leads to an authoritarian government that abuses it's power.

I find it truely odd that the same folks on the left who cry out in favor of thier freedoms over security... are of the same ilk of those who would limit the individual the freedom to protect themselves through the use of firearms

so if you dont want the government providing security.. and you dont want the individual citizens provding security.... exactly who is supposed to be providing security? or do you believe that no security is neccessary?

I would absolutely not give up any of the liberties guaranteed me by the Constitution for security in any form. Those liberties are only the most basic liberties necessary for any sort of democratic republic to function properly. I would give up the right to bear arms, probably, because i hate guns; but other than that, none of them should be infringed upon in any way. Liberty is too precious to be traded away for mere security. I'd rather fight to the death for my liberties than surrender to tyranny, although i don't think the Patriot Act or anything like that is tyrannical, i don't like it. I certainly would fight someone over it, but i would certainly argue till I'm blue in the face.

In short, absolutely not.
