I'd like to play a hdtv-lol.avi file, and I'm having the toughest of times doing so. My first attempt to play it was with Windows Media Player. It told me I didn't have the correct codec both audio and video. So, I downloaded the latest DivX Player hoping it would come with the correct codec to play this file. No such luck.

Google searching teh internets to see if there was someone else with my problem was a success. Many n00bs who replaced you with u and are with r, were 1) depleting my faith in the human race and 2) only getting limited feedback. A bunch of jerks simply replied "VLC! VLC! VLC! Idiot!"

So, I downloaded this VLC player. It s*cks. It s*cks because I don't know how the f**k to use it. I go to open and it pulls up this weird options screen with three or four tabs full of options, not just the normal windows browsing window. Right off the bat, this program is dumb. So, I find out how to select the file I want to play, and attempt to play it, but it doesn’t play the video.

The video files are not corrupt. I just don't have the right codec. I've downloaded so much crap. I've attempted to download specific things like 3ivx and Xvid. When that failed, I downloaded a cocktail of codecs, but that didn't work either.

I'm going to kill a small animal if I don't get this thing to play.

Hmm...you could have just dragged the file over the VLC icon, or right-clicked on it and chosen "Open with VLC."
