What do you believe are three factors contributing to the present weakened state of parties? What is the significance of those factors? And what do you think the will happen to the role of Political Parties in the future?

The republican party will be weakened by "campaign finance reform" passed by the democrat congress that greatly limits individual contributions the republicans bread and butter while doing nothing to control big 3rd party interests like unions, environmental groups, and Section 527s the democrats bread and butter. The democrats will as well reimplement the fairness doctrine since their message doesn’t resonate with the people and take other steps to silence the conservatism.

IMO, the main political parties are too strong.
This is assuming you're talking about the US though. Did you mean worldwide or some other country or something like that? Your profile doesn't have a location or country.

That reminds me of a newsgroup on the usenet I post on that relates to my profession. We made our own FAQ, and the first one was in relation to Do Your Own Homework.

The parties are not weak, but the country is weak because of parties. They have carved up this country and are fighting over the last bite.

If this country falls to revolution or invasion it will be because of parties. They are substitutes for democracy. They are a substitute for consensus. They are like consensus in a can, and even when they do not represent even the people described as by party, they can still say the party supports this or that as though it were consensus.

Parties make all issues national. Is this necessary or good? Does every state in the nation have a problem with guns or abortion? No; but because it is made a national issue it is in that forum that it must be defended. And this is another face of the problem. Neither party can recognize a need to put constitutional rights beyond their own reach so long as they can make some hay and money on the issue. Our constitution should be the defense, and all the defense our rights need. Instead, each party threatens rights, and each party claims to defend rights, and the people are led to sacrifice their amity and unity on the alter of party politics. What ever strengthens the parties weakens America. Parties are traitors to the cause of freedom. We have to get them all off our backs.
