I don't think employees can used discounts on consoles. The retailers don't make much money on the games and consoles. The markup is fairly low.

Quote: Not according to the retailer. The retailer stated (and not only Worst Buy, but others as well) that Microsoft and Sony would not allow them (or any other retailer) to sell their product for less, period.
Have a source that can show me that MS and Sony will not allow this?
It makes zero sense that Sony or Microsoft would block Best Buy employees from using their discount to purchase a system that Best Buy has already paid for. Sony nor Microsoft would care at this point, they just want the systems sold. In fact I am sure that MS loves Amazon selling the Xbox 360 Core for $100 as they already sold those systems to Amazon, so it does not affect them.
Gamestop does not allow employee discounts on the systems, as stated above, systems are not marketed up that much. The money comes from games and accessories.
Reports show that the 360 Premium costs $323.30 to make. Now add in the costs of shipping, advertisement etc and you will see the $76 difference vanish.
Meanwhile the $600 PS 3 is reported to cost $840.35 to make. Adding in shipping and ads this only goes up. They(MS and Sony) are going to sell these systems as close to their MSRP as they can. As they are merely a trojan for the real money makers (the games and accessories).
Production Costs Link

Quote: Ever wonder why places like Wal Mart, who are constantly cutting prices, didn't cut the price, but stayed the same as higher-end electronics stores? Not because they wanted to
Because high-end electronics carry a higher-end cost for them to purchase from the manufacturer. If they were making $200 on a Xbox 360 Premium sale you might have a point, but they don't make that much.
Walmart can not cut the prices of the Xbox and PS unless they wish to take a loss on their sales, which apparently Amazon is willing to due on 1,000 Xbox 360 Cores.

Quote: Huh?
A holiday temporary sale is not a price slash. A price slash is a Xbox 360 going from $400 to $350 across the board. Walmart's Xbox 360 Premium continues to cost $400. That is not a price slash, including Burnout is an apparenty holiday promotion.
For example if they are selling a stereo that is $500 for $400 for Black Friday and then the price will resume being $500 that is not price slashing, but rather a sale.

Quote: They're prolly mad that the 360 is winning, cuz they are going to lose alot more money than on the Barbie doll if it won
I don't think they are angry at the 360 winning as it was their choice to put that as one of the choices. Also I bet they will make more money off of games, xbox live subscriptions, and perpherials sales from those 360s they sell than they would off of selling the Barbies at the deal.
The 360 winning will probably make them the most return on this deal from further sales linked to that purchase. As with the bike, thats all you need (many will probably buy helmets), a Barbie thats all you need, a 360 you need a game at the very least (probably a harddrive or atleast a memory unit, 2nd controller, component cables if you want HD, and probably more than one game further down the road).

Do I have a source? Are you kidding me? :rotf:

Tell you what - if I can find my ex-husband, holed up in a bar somewhere, I will ask him who his boss was back in the day, when he worked at Best Buy, so I can give you a source  that states that Sony and MS won't allow any differences in price.

If I can't find which bar he's in, I'll call my son and wake him up, and ask him what his boss's name was, when he worked at Wal Mart, who told him the same thing.

If I can't get either one of them, then I guess you'll just continue to question me, which bothers me not in the least. They all said the same thing - that MS and Sony tell the retailers what to charge.

So short answer, no. Reasoning would lead one to believe that if Sony and MS already made their money on that stock that BestBuy/Walmart had purchased... they could less how cheap they sell it for as they've already gotten their money.

No stated it wasn't "fine". It is fair from ideal and is easy to deny you service to your Wife by simply taking over the channel your router is working on or even other items -- cellphones, 2.4ghz phones (depends if you are using b or g), microwaves, etc...

Wireless is great, even better that it works perfectly for you, but it is not comparable to wired ethernet.

I just don't think it's as bad as everybody here seems to think it is...that's all. I wasn't comparing it to wired ethernet either...

I am glad it work great for you. But for ever wonder story I know (me, not a true sample size, etc..) I know a equal horror story.

My neighbor has wireless in his house. It works great for web surfing, downloads, etc...

He can't play CS:Source or Live without constant hickups over his wireless.

I also live in an apartment near the DC area. There are so many snoopers, wireless attackers, etc... That I would not dare use Wireless in my area.

I mean, a simple denial of service attack would be easy to setup and ruin my afternoon gaming fun if someone below was bored.

Ah, suburban areas FTW!

I know of what you speak of in the dense areas of the city. My friend lives in SF with his girlfriend and they leech off of other wireless connections easily obtained from above and below.

I guess me living in a suburban area with relatively few people around me that can actually take advantage of my wireless let alone know how helps me out a bit.

Now I get where your coming from!

I use a wireless cable modem, and I don't have many problems. I do experience lag every once in a while and usually at the worst possible moment.
