you may not wan't any labels on people but the minorities do...
Pfft... then they are fools. Labels are mere doorways to segregation. If they indeed do then they cannot b!tch about insisting that door remain open. |

Of course not. You've already rendered yourself irrelevent by using "Mexican American" as an example. Anybody who is actually close to people of Mexcian decent know that they'd never use that term except when being interviewed by CNN - and 9 times out of 10, not even then.
Ask any Mexican and they'll tell you the same. It's either Mexican, Chicano, or Latino.
Class dismissed. |

If you come here you don't really get to keep your culture even if your culture is what got you here, and makes you successful when you get here.
We like a sort of homgeneous non culture culture that keeps the best of everyone's food excluding rats, cats, and insects; and gradually supplant it with high fat, high sugar, high carb, low protean, and low fiber diets. As for the rest, we call it a melting pot; but it is more of an acid bath. You come out of that with everything you can clench between your teeth. Everything else is dissolved. Welcome to America. Take a number. |

Have you even BEEN to Africa?" These labels, while PC, are stupid in my opinion. You are either American, or you are not. Ethnicities are not nationality based per se.
The only time I would disagree is for those who hold dual citizenship where a hyphenated label can be clarifying. Native American is fine in my opinion as it is at least accurate and some Native Americans do have subtle differences from other Americans depending upon tribal treaties and such.
For other cases, I agree. We are all just Americans. |
