I have read the question in context. I still maintain that the question really isn't meant to be answered- do you really expect the senator to say anything other than "No, of course not?" He didn't ask whether the policy might benefit the enemy, he didn't ask why the senator thought this was best for America- he actually asked the senator if he was a traitor. On national TV. Based on this religion and a policy that a lot of Americans like the sound of.
I understand what you are saying, I really do. But all he was doing was linking Muslims and democrats to traitors. It is a cheap, sleezy trick, as I mentioned, one best left behind in the playground. |

Bingo. :tu:
I swear- when I saw it, I had flashbacks to the opening scene of "Welcome to the Dollhouse": Hey, are you a lesbian? Just wondering.
It's similar to when a Republican questions the patriotism of a Democrat in this country:
Hey, are you a terrorist? Just wondering...
Hey, are you a cut-and-runner? Just wondering...
Hey, are you anti-American? Just wondering...
Since they lost, these are the new questions which implicate that, hey, maybe some Democrats ARE terrorists, like the newly elected African American Muslim Ellison to Congress. It's so obvious that that was the racist sentiment Glenn Beck was subtlety implying in the hopes that his rightwing minions will catch on (wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more).
Before it was "Democrats are terrorist appeasers," or "the anti-war movement is pro-terrorist." Stupid sh!t like that. Now they just have to be more subtle about it because they got their asses handed to them last November 7th. |

Perhaps, but it's not an example of bigotry. |

True. I'd never post anything from a site called smirkingchimp. |
