"Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi who went from Senate minority leader to presumptive majority leader to disgrace in a matter of days four years ago, was elected minority whip, the party’s second-ranking Senate leadership position, on Wednesday."
Trent Lott is a self-righteous man who has done nothing but hurt the Republican party during his career. How in the hell did he get elected as Minority Whip? Did any of the Republican Senators recall Rick Santorum, a man of the exact same cloth as Lott, being handily defeated a week ago?
Actions like this prove that the Democrats really didn't do any harm to the Republicans in the 2006 elections. THE REPUBLICANS DID IT ALL TO THEMSELVES!!!
What a bunch of bozos. |

What does a minority whip do anyway? |

| He is going to tie the Majority in knots. He is a Master Black Belt and Senate procedures and protocol. Say hello to a do nothing Congress. With Lott as Whip, the Republicans don't need a Majority in the Senate. Bush will never have to use a veto. The blow back form this election gets better to watch by the day. |

What intelligent politcal position is this supposed to communicate? I see a lot of namecalling. Maybe if I just dig through all the names.... |

Byrd is the most consistent voter in the history of congress. That alone makes him worth any two republicans. |

Hitler was pretty consistent too - he was also a vegitarian, painter (very good at painting architecture actually) and was a veteran that served with distinction...and he was very big on Health Care and other Socialist programs...oh and did I forget? He ruined Germany's primary education and sought to change society.
Hitler is in fact...the perfect Democrat.

| As if booting a senator has anything to do with record or community standing. |

Leave it to a hack to support a member of the KKK. Do you where your bedsheets to DNC rallies?
Most consistent to what? Voting with his party?
Then he's as big a hack as you. |

I agree.
Lott is as skilled in Rule-Fu as KKK Byrd.
That's the reason he was chosen. |

It doesn't matter. Senator Lott is just as much a liability to Bush and his supporters as an asset. THEY were the ones who threw him out of his leadership position. Lott had a strong reaction to the Foley incident on many media outlets. Lott was hurt by them, and I don't think such transgressions are simply ignored in the US senate. I hope you don't forget those either. I'm not saying he'll ally with democrats, I'm just saying that the man will not be Mr. Bush's biggest cheerleader. At least, that's my opinion.
Procedure only goes so far in the senate anyway. Without control of the House, there are several important peices of legislation that the democrats now have control over, namely budget, and of course they have control over all the subcommittees so much more will see votes on the senate and house floor forcing republicans to go on the record on many issues they've dodged with their congressional majority. This was a loss for republicans. |

Bush isn't running for anything.
Lott won because he can use the rules to stop the Democrats from implementing their risky schemes, to use an "AlGoreism". 8:) |

His supporters in the Senate are.

While he may be an expert in that area, and if he's the only one, then perhaps many republicans, including those who supported removing him from his leadership position had no choice. I agree with that, but all I'm saying is that he was personally NOT happy with his party and he may still be carrying a grudge. Just reminding you of that as well... |

Hmmm. I'm also a big fan of gridlock, but shouldn't the Republicans try to improve their image?
Ah heck, who cares. GRIDLOCK IS GOOD! |

And, of course, the thing Lott and Byrd have in common is the stain of their conservative "philosophy" which has come back to haunt them.
Providence will handle Byrd soon enough. Lott on the other hand...
Well, it's fitting that guru can now safely nest again in GOP leadership. |

What did you expect, they are Republicans, of course they are going to appoint a racist to a top position.
I thought everyone knew that. |

Makes sure members attend votes and vote the way the minority leader wants them to. |
