Ok, let me start off by saying my only source for these rumors is a friend that works at Target. He's in tight with the managers as he actually knows stuff about electronics.

Now then: About a week back he said they would get 40 PS3's, 30 of the 60GB and 10 of the 20GB variants. Just two days ago they received an e-mail from Sony stating that their shipment was cut to just 10 PS3's total. A look on the web will also find some suspicious statements from a BestBuy rep...

Not good. I'm really beginning to wonder about what kind of difficulties they're having with the manufacturing of this thing and the damn blue laser.

2nd: This sounds so f***ing retarded but he told me rather adamantly...

Target is going to drop the price of the Premium 360 the day after Thanksgiving down to just $130. Just for that day.

That's all I've got about that one and I think it's utter BS. Either Target will pay for the loss in revenue or Microsoft is really thinking big...uh huh.

Well, that's all for now. :)

Well, I'll say this much: if that's true, Free Thinkr will be the proud poppa of a brand new 360. Doesn't sound possible though.

Hell, I'll buy a 2nd one and sell it the next day for a profit over ebay.

I dunno I find it hard to believe that Target will do that, but hey if they do I'll get someone or two people 360s for Christmas.

Now as going for something that is apparently a bit more than a rumor... there are only 150,000 PS 3 units ready for the US launch according to an industry analyst.
Quote: Lazard analyst Colin Sebastian believes, based on retail sources, that the actual figure is much lower - with a mere 150,000-200,000 machines ready for November 17th and a total possible sell-through of 750,000 by the end of 2006. In comparison Sebastian stated he believes the Nintendo Wii will sell 1.2 million by the end of the year.

The Xbox 360 is starting with a nearly 7 million console lead.
Anyone predicting Sony or Nintendo to take the crown by 2010?
I'm guessing the 360 will pull it out in 2010 with a 5 million or so lead over the PS 3.

Beyond that I cannot say.

No doubt; what they lack in technology, they'll make up in marketing. That seems to be their MO.

I like both the 360 and the Wii. The cost of the Wii and the family friendly games on the Wii will give it an advantage. The price of the PS3 will hurt it in terms of sales for years.

Nintendo can have some intense FPS gaming (metroid prime is the only example I can think of)

http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/16/ps3-faq-answers-to-your-playstation-3-questions/

Seems the PS 3 isn't quite the Media Center it's supposed to be, but it's a game console and that should be it's focus as that is it's primary use.
I wasn't very impressed with it's other capabilities, so bring on the games.

Ah here is a rumor from the latest EGM:
Metal Gear Solid 4 may be ported to the Xbox 360 as Konami is apparently making a push to do this.

That...would hurt them (If it occurred at the same time and wasn't a crappy port).

Xbox 360 Core for $100. Add a refurbed HD from Gamestop for $80 + Component cables for $40 and your at $220 for a Premium. The only difference now is you have a wired controller instead of a wireless one.

As for the MGS rumor. Ya that would do some damage I agree, but I am a bit skeptical that it would be released at the same time if the rumor is true.
Whats hurting Sony right now is Gears of War and the fact that there are no PS 3s for people to buy unless you have $2,000 to drop on Ebay.

Sony made more money off of the PS 2 than Nintendo did off of the Gamecube.
The same may very well eventually happen for the PS 3 as production costs drop and sales increase.

Microsoft is now making $75 off every console sold due to cost refinements and mass production.

So quick question here then. I have heard talk about the PS3 not being backwards compatible as in you would be unable to play PS1 and PS2 games on it. Would Sony actually substantiate this and release PS3 with no compatibility or is this just unsubstantiated rumor?
