OK, I get it.... the rank and file republicans need somebody to blame and Bush certainly is the guy they SHOULD blame for the stomping they got in the election.
But this statement shows just how disconnected Gingrich is from reality:
Quote: Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has suggested that if Bush replaced Rumsfeld two weeks before the election, voters would not have been as angry about the unpopular Iraq war. Republicans would have gained the boost they needed, according to Gingrich, to retain their majority in the Senate and hold onto 10 to 15 more House seats.

Right..... and if OJ had just said:
"Ooops! My bad...."
Nobody would have cared either.
Newt seriously thinks that would have kept the House in republican control?
I think Newt's buying his drugs from Rush these days.... |

Denial ain't that long river in Egypt.....
I mean, if it had been close, MAYBE I would listen to this malarkey.... but in the House, they got a full throttle stomping.
I will agree maybe the close senate races might have swung. |

Many Republicans believed they were going to win the election by a narrow margin, too. Anybody remember Karl Rove's internal numbers?
Whatever Newt and Arlen believe in this regard must be taken with a grain of salt. The Republicans ability to predict the future has been proven time and again to be highly inaccurate. |

But more importantly: don't you thnink it's ironic that the republicans have descended into the back stabbing, name calling and infighting that has crippled the dems so many times?
Seriously, the last thing the repubs need is public whinings and cat fights which just re-enforces the people's opinion they are not fit to lead. It looks like they are totally writing off Bush's last two years as a complete loss and just sacrificing him to try to get political cover for themselves..... but that never works.
How can they blame Bush for being the moron that he is without looking the same themselves for following him off the cliff?
The repubs are shooting themselves in the foot.... |

There's no possible chance for GOP cohesiveness at this point, and therefore they must go at each other's throats. We'll be hearing alot more gunshots as they continue to aim squarely at their feet. The central leadership control for the GOP is now officially AWOL. Karl Rove has been thoroughly marginalized by his monumental mistakes, and the wheels have completely come off now.
Who woulda thunk? |

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has suggested that if Bush replaced Rumsfeld two weeks before the election, voters would not have been as angry about the unpopular Iraq war. Republicans would have gained the boost they needed, according to Gingrich, to retain their majority in the Senate and hold onto 10 to 15 more House seats.
I think he's probably right. Plenty of diehards were just dying for a reason to vote GOP, some sign that they could have both republicans in office and a change of course. They never got it.
It makes Bush's previous statement that "rumsfeld will be here two more years" that much more inexplicable. Not only a flat out lie - as it takes a couple weeks to get a guy like Gates vetted and onboard - but one that hurt him in the election. Stunning gaffe. |

Bush would have kept Rummy if the Repubs had won, which explains why he didn't fire him prior to the elections.
Now, with the pressure to replace him anyway, Bush had to race to get the successor approved before the Obstructicrats took office. |

Who woulda thunk? Of course there is going to be some restructuring after a loss, there always is. Some of the blame definetly goes to Bush for not offering enough leadership. There are those who are still in office and were part of the reason why we pissed away the majority that do not want to take credit for it. That is the dead wood that must be removed. When something goes wrong change is needed to fix it, right?
Rove made some bad mistakes this election, that is pretty obvious. for 3 elections he exapanded the base and then suddenly turned 180 and retracted it to the deep south.
Mehlman is now gone, Rumsfeld's pathetic prosecution of post Hussein Iraq is now gone and if Bush chooses to continue to not offer strong leadership as he hasn't for the past two years then why not write him off too? |

I love that old "WHO" song......
I'll bet "Won't Get Fooled Again" was playing on the jukebox somewhere in Alabama as a young GWB's brain succumbed to the 37 beers of the night and a few thousand brain cells committed suicide and he fell from his bar stool with a "THUMP".......... storing the memory of that song for a future occasion. |
