I hadn't realised that New Zealand didn't have its own bespoke memorial in the UK; I'm glad that such an omission has been rectified.

Excellent. I'm up in London in a couple of weeks, so thats something that needs to be seen I think....

It's probably - from the decription in the piece - going to be quite close to the Canadian war memorial, which I must say is very pleasant; if you haven't seen that as well, it's worth a look.

In the realms of money wasted, government makes far, far, far greater losses than this. There's nothing wasteful or spent about remembering those who made great sacrifices, young people who never made their 20th birthday. For sure, you don't have to honour them or use a memorial with which to remember - I'm sure you don't wish to belittle the memory - but a lot of people do want a memorial and they have a right to expect their government to act on their behalf.
