|

Quote: CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- The Hamas-led Palestinian government agreed Sunday to an international peace conference with Israel.
The decision came after the Arab League -- angered by Israel's military offensive in Gaza -- agreed to end a financial blockade on the Palestinians.

Well, there'll be some debate as to whether this is actually a step forward, but I'd say the combination of this and Haniyahs announcement shows Hamas have realised there is no way forward without negotiation. Also, with the restoration of aid from the Arab league to provide the money for wages we may well see a decrease in violence between Palestinians...
Thoughts? |

Thoughts?
Short term it may reduce some attacks against Israel and thus reduce IDF retailation against terror targets. In the long run... it means nothing as they will fight the IDF as long as Israel exists or they exist. |

saying you'll negotiate is all well and good, but look at the north korean talks. nothing has been accomplished thus far and north korea has continued to defy the world.
the problem with this, though, is that hamas can say it wants peace all it wants. it doesn't mean that those words will be followed through. and considering that alot of the attacks on israel are done by militias with backing from hamas, it seems like it'll be hard to stop them. |

Well, there may be another step forward in this...
Quote: U.S.-educated professor could lead Palestinians
GAZA CITY (AP) -- The rival Fatah and Hamas movements on Monday agreed on a candidate for prime minister of their emerging coalition government, turning to a U.S.-educated professor to end months of infighting and help lift a painful international aid boycott.

| i dont understand the pessimism here. should everything just continue as it was palestine hits, and israel hits back and go through that cycle? if Hamas are starting to show signs of co-operating, of understanding they need to make changes in order for thigns to get better for the palestinians as well as the israeli's then whether this is short term or long term it should be encouraged. we have to start soemwhere, a step forward at least it better than a step back. |

I am liking the fact that Hamas and Fatah are agreeing more, this is a very good sign of things to come. Things could also get better if this guy, produces good results. |
