If you haven't played or heard of the game it's a World War 2 first person shooter, and if you die you see a quote from a famous war general or veteran, was wodering if any of you had noticed how targetted they appear (I may get a few words wrong but these are from memory):

Lincon: "One hopes that as our power grows with time, we will learn that the less we use our power, the greater it will be."

Churchill: "Never expect a simple war or one without catastrophe and blunder"

Sun Tzu: "“There has never been a protracted war from which a country has benefited."

Sun Tzu: "“The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.”

There were a hell of a lot more quotes than that but my memory fails me unfortunately :(

Any others of you notice this?

The maxims of war are timeless. If you think that they are directly related to Iraq then you should consider that someone is doing something wrong in Iraq, not that the game is trying to influence your opinions.

'If you know the enemy and know yourself, your victory will not stand in doubt; if you know Heaven and know Earth, you may make your victory complete.' - Sun Tzu

I agree with all the quotes and am vehemently anti war - was just really suprised to see an American company take an apparent stance in a way that is beyond the call of duty as it were, putting themselves in the firing line.

Or perhaps as I said I'm reading far too much into it. Hence this thread :P

I think you are trying to read too much into it. As I said the maxims are timeless, I believe that I can find several maxims of warfare that have been violated in Iraq, and it is one of the reasons why I believe that that war is already lost (and that is something that I don't want to debate in this forum) That this particular game makes it appear that the company is taking that stance is simply a coincidence and shows that those maxims are still valid today.

I don't think you can claim these statements are directed at Iraq.

Churchill was an Admiral in WWI - he knew first hand how a war is unpredictable. He went to war in 1914 under the guise of the national sentiment they would all be home for Christmas.

They spent Christmas playing soccer with Germans in No Man's Land.

The next 3 Christmas' were spent in trenches hiding from gas attacks.

Churchill was not an Admiral in WWI, he was First Lord of the Admiralty which is a civilian politician's post in the cabinet.

Chruchill's personal military experiance was totally Army, and Churchill himself was rather contemptuous of the Navy and it's traditions, dismissing them as being all about 'rum, sodomy and the lash'.........

Forgive me, but exactly what do quotes "directed at Iraq" have to do with you dying in CoD 3?

Thanks for those corrections - matter of fact was emphasis on his views of the progress of WWI and its applications on what to expect of WWII.

Read the OP please, as in the other Call of Duty's when you die you are given a quote from a famous war veteran.

And sorry, thought this would be too loungie for the politics section.

Oh please. Those are basic truths of war. It amazes me that many of the people that supported the invasion of Iraq had their heads so far jammed up their asses that they thought it would be a quick & easy victory.

for those who liked to read into the quotes that they show after you die. read into this.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
- John Stuart Mill

"All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing."
- Edmund Burke, British statesman and philosopher

ur al deffenitly look into these quotes to much cause they are just quotes that r relavent to war. some are "pro war" some are "anti-war"

Just out of curiosity...so what if some gamer programmer has an agenda? Is it supposed to mean anything other than the subliminal indoctrination of our youth into their idea of politics? Isn't that the really scary thing? Don't think so? What if it had Pro-Christian quotes?
