Downscale

Quote: As it turns out, gamers who own older HD sets that boast only 480i, 480p, and 1080i resolutions will have 720p signals downsized to 480 instead of being upscaled to 1080i. We tested this development on older television sets with max-720 games Resistance: Fall of Man, NHL 2K7, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, and Need for Speed Carbon. Sure enough, the system downscaled all four titles to 480p rather than moving up to 1080i.
I wonder how many earlier adopters of the HD sets are going to be burnt by this one?
Hopefully they will be able to patch this or something.... although it won't affect me I know my neighbor won't be too happy.

Not only that I read somewhere that the PS3 won't play a LOT of the older games fort PS 1 and 2.I'll have to dig around and see if I can find the article again.

I can't imagine that there are many TVs that don't support 720p if they support 1080i. 720p is spec for HD as well as trivial for any set that supports 1080i. I'd say that 99.99% of TVs that don't support 720p, don't support 1080i.

Resistance is ranked the same at 89%

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter however recieved a 91% from gamerankings.

Halo 1: 95% on gamerankings Halo 2: 94% Gears of War: 95%

edit: updated with some scores...

It would appear that Resistance is about as killer of an app as COD 2 on the 360 according to reviews.

Well, when you think about it Resistance is just another typical shooter with nice graphics and some physics. There's really nothing new here...but I dig the story greatly. I actually think a book would be awesome because the lengths Insomniac went through to set the stage for the game on the website was awesome.

Overall, the gameplay just looks like you holding a gun and running at or from your enemies.

Maybe Gears of War ruined me...or the new Rainbow Six demo...

But these new covering methods add a whole new dimension to strategy in first and third person shooters. Actually, it might just be that it's actually adding strategy...

I 100% agree and honestly wish Halo 3 had the cover system but too many people would scream Gears of War clone.

Apparently it wasn't too uncommon for early HDTVs to not support 720p but support 1080i. I don't think it's a big problem as you've stated a low percentage of people will be affected by this. However my neighbor will be because he jumped on the HD wagon too early.

What's the point of having a $500 new system if it can't do any of the s**t the other PS2 could?

What stuff are you referring to?
The PS 2 was unable to do 720 or 1080 completely.
