| Now I will say that this is an issure I'm conflicted on, I'm not sure which way I feel about it. I heard a talk from the author of Freakanomics that said the dramatic decrease in crime since the 70's can be directly and statistically attributed to the legalization of abortion. I wanted to get some other opinions on this. It's definitely a polarizing subject. |

I've read the book and think that it's possibly correct, though I would hesitate to believe that it was responsible for a majority of the decrease.
I don't really stand anywhere on abortion, but it seems like a weak argument for abortion since basically it would mean that we're aborting fetuses to take care of problems we should deal with ourselves. |

| I doubt the author took into account all of the possible factors as there were many. Regardless, you can take crime, especially white-collar crime, down to nothing by aborting all males and killing off all those less than 35 years old... |

Or we can take it the other way, and get rid of all laws. That'll bring crime to zero! |

It'd do it a gazillion times faster than killing everyone too. |

It is like saying that gun control and low crime coexist in Britan. |

| I guess alot of what this shows is that one thing that statistical analysis cannot account for is people's emotions on a subject. If you were to go based solely on logic, anything you could do to reduce crime would be great. But would you really be willing to kill somebody because they "might" commit a crime. Interesting concept, I guess thats why so many movies have been made on the subject. |

Not killing them -- yet, nonetheless:
