Not sure if this is the location to post this, but am I the only one who recently viewed this video, and find it disturbing?

Ok, this person read the book to find the exact page numbers of what was objectionable, and he even knows what the book is about, but he does not see what is wrong with censorship. These people are f***ing dumbasses that should be sent to a country where anything found objectionable for yay reason is destroyed, like China.

He listed "cigarettes" as objectionable!

This is just more neo-conservative moral oppression.

I got too goddamn pissed off after about two minutes. I can't listen to that s**t.

I can't stand people like that. Sorry.

Apology not necessary. I had to see it twice because I couldn't believe people can be that freakin' ignorant. Heaven forbid we humans are given a imagination, that allows us to write about fictitious characters, in the future, that makes us think. Yeah, because thinking and having an imaginations is BAD. (Sarcasm there people.)

What are they going to ban next? Huck Finn?? Oh wait.. they're trying to do that too, nvm.

If these people get so upset over a book, then reading is obviously not for them.

Well its not like books haven't been banned before, but it gets to be extremely ridiculous in the present day. More overly sensitive people getting what they want, that's what it is.

Trying? I think they already have. My school has banned it for saying "****" an unreasonable amount of times.

Haven't seen the video (can't watch it ATM), but I did hear about this a while back, and I must say: most hilariously ironic thing of all time.

Actually, I think it's a perfect choice. Think about it, this moron is trying to ban a book whose main topic is censorship, for god's sake. His attempt will cause more people to read the book, and when they do, they will fight censorship; his choice of book undermines his own position. Again: hilarious.

I see now what they mean by the price of Democracy being eternal vigilance.

One is reminded of the Iranian mullahs demanding the death of Salman Rushdie. This is by no means as bad, but much more insidious.

Now that I think about it, it is a good choice. Ironic how a book based on censorship is now becoming the victim of censorship. Oh how much more f****d up could it get?

I originally thought Harry Potter was the book being described when I first read this post.

not that i agree with him, but in his defense he is not actually requesting it be banned, but rather that the school not make it required reading, i read that book and liked it, it is actually in defense of general values all in this country hold dear, while portions of it might be objectionable they are used for an overall effect that is good, they failed to understand that the burning of the bible AND of intellectual books is significant, destroying freedom of all kinds

basically what this guy found objectionable is what most people are _supposed_ to find objectionable, and basically what the book is getting across, that a world without books is objectionable

they just didnt get it, perhaps it should be explained to them better

For me the book puts to mind more the emptiness of much of the modern media (not to say that there are not shows and movies of excellent and intelligent content); the sort of anti-intellectual mindset that mistrusts anyone with a degree and refuses- on moral grounds- to watch anything more stimulating than big brother. Is there not a pivotal scene where the Chief comments that people, overall, preferred to get rid of the books? That's what stuck with me.
