What do they do?

How do they work?

Is it worth the money?

from what I've heard (although my experience in the matter is very limited), so few games actually use the technology that it's not worth it.

I don't see this as a good investment unless you don't care about throwing down $100+ for very little results.

$200

I believe devs will be hard pressed to ask people to drop an additional $200 for a PC for gaming purposes on top of the cost of the rest of the PC parts, especially high end new video cards/CPUs. The cheapest 8800 listed on Nvidia's site is $490... so just for these two peices you've already spent nearly $700.

Not really worth it. Besides, CPUs will always be more practical (but not as effective) specially now that we have multicores. AMD (ATI) and nvidia will also be providing PPU solutions with their dual card setups (soon to be triple card setups as I have heard).
