One thing that I respected Rand for and caused me to ponder my original intentions was that of how people choose a trade:
I'm curious to ask those who read, eat, sleep and breathe Objectivism...
...how does one acknowledge their purpose to themselves on the basis of what to follow as their trade or profession?
Personally, I've followed this route in my career:
Mechanic (motivated by family within the business)
Soldiering (motivated by seeking an adventure)
Paleontology Lab Worker and Factory Worker (motivated by hunger)
International Affairs and Islamic Studies Major (motivated by curiousity whilst soldiering)
Ecology Major and Hydroponics (motivated by past hobbies and thirst for scientific knowledge)
If you're not an objectivist, how do you view profession? |

People can't live on a steady diet of failure. They find what they enjoy, and enjoy what they do best, and do better what they enjoy most. And as Plato put in the mouth of Socrates, quoting some poet- To this they give the chief of all their days.
Now, that is a long trail back I can't follow at this moment, and I am no objectivist. But I think you will find it true. |
