ok, i live in Egypt as u can see. and i can tell u that many of those guys where caught and put in jail.
it was not a very surprising incident for me. it's because of a growing Egyptian problem. the system here isnt working and needs to be changed. and we will continue to see more problems here.
hopefully the problems will be over soon. |

Quote: Because they were unable to capture the women. Isn't rape sexual assault? Fondling someone against their will or something like that sounds like rape to me... they may not have actually gang raped these women in the sense of holding them down and all that, however as you have stated, it was sexual assault. Whats the difference?
sexual assault and rape are completely different. i think as a victim you'd feel very different if you had be forced into sexual intercourse, as apposed to being groped by a bunch of sick perverts.
Quote: Yet the victims of these crimes are not punished for being raped by the courts.
i didnt make myself clear when i posted that link, i only sent it as a means so that not everyone outside of ME can get on their high horse about how backward this country is and how theirs is somehow better, or how these things dont happen outthere, when in actual fact sexual assault, rape and abuse is a common prolem all over the world, that should shed outrage and condemnation and be worked on preventing. not for this to go into some debate about how islam sexually represses these youths sexual desires, which isnt an excuse anyway.
Quote: This above quote is from your source. I skimmed the article unable to find a part where the women were being charged for this horrible event that made them victims.
men were charged youre right, police action and support was better, i think i already made my dislike for egyptian police evident.
Quote: Were you accompanied by a man at all times? These women were attacked for being on their own.
no i wasnt, i did go out alone and never got bothered apart from stares, only because i look out of place there, but not one time did i feel under threat.
Quote: So it takes blogs and a human rights group to report this? When the NYC stuff happened was it not on the mainstream news in the United States? I recall watching a segment about it.
So instead apparently the ME Media turns a blind eye to this, only to have it unraveled by bloggers.
just get off the high horse for a minute. the point is the egyptian gvt is corrupt, the police are rubbish and general security is pathetic in egypt, that is not the case in America, plus the fact last time i checked egypt wasnt the largest superpower in the world, if they couldnt deal with a situation like that adequately then it would be a disgrace. and yes it does take bloggers and human rights activists to bring situations to the media, and that should be encouraged in countries where the gvt tries to push back what it doesnt consider good press for it.
Quote: So let us not imply that what happened in Egypt wasn't so bad because something similar had once happened elsewhere on a much lesser scale, and was treated as the crime that it was.
that wasnt the implication at all, sexual abuse at whatever scale is disgusting. the reason i bought the news article forward was simple to show that the idea of sexual repression is not the excuse for this crime, because if that was the case then what was those americans who did this excuse? america is hardly a sexually repressed society. and for any man to feel it is ok to sexually assault a woman in whatever way goes beyond this idea, and it needs to be dealt with |
