when the jews originally migrated from egypt, they took their land by force. depending on how much historical fact you place in the old testament the jews more or less committed genocides to keep their land. judea, however, was split into tribes for some time. then there was a king, he united them, judea was a grand place for a while. they were eventually taken over by the phonecians, the babylonians, the romans, the crusaders, the caliphate, saladins empire, the mamelukes, the ottomans, the british, and now they're free.

(this is a very general history)

Abraham bought Sara's grave, and if you listen you can hear Sara when you say Israel. Abraham was a hero of Judah, Israel follows her lineage, and not his. It is not much of a claim on real estate, but there it is, in Genesis.
