How does flag burning, in the words of a Labour MP, "has the power to incite violence." I do not see one good reason why this should become law, and many reasons wy it shoudn't. Opinions?

Flag burning is a symbol, make it a crime or not and it will still happen - it will in fact probably become more significant as it would also be an act of civil disobidience.

and just to illustrate the lunacy of such an idea, it is made clear that there will be an exemption for the muslim veil... precisely when this is aimed at islamic demonstrations! what a way to demonstrate the hollow nature of the idea!

In which case I'd be tempted to go to a demo and wear a veil - if I was arrested surely a case of religious discrimination. And of course of impersonating a woman IF it's really women under those things.

How are they defining flag? Is it soley flags of countries or would the EU flag be included or what about plitical party flags? In anycase it is a totally idioti idea.

Why limit it to flags?

Burning anything in a public street as a form of protest is not only going beyond the boundaries of "peaceful demonstration" but is actually rather dangerous.

There should be a general ban on concealing one's face in public (unless riding a motorbike), if Muslims don't like that then they may live in a Muslim nation.

Anyone burning the Union Flag near me better be ready for a mouth full of my boot. :twisted:

Burning the EU flag should be obligatory - maybe fold it into Guy Fawkes or Christmas celebrations??

But in all seriousness burning flags is quite insulting and something we should frown upon but it isn't a crime and nor should it be their are a few flags which should be burned and The Butchers Apron should be no more protected than any other if you really want to protest this buy a US and a UK flag tie it to a Palestinian or Jihad Flag and burn both no flag has or ever will be worth the blood which is shed for them.

Sorry chief, can't see the difference myself. Never quite understood why the Welsh had a dragon for their national symbol. No offence intended.

My safety? Who said I'm a protestor? My concern is for other folk who might get injured because some t**t decides arson is fun. I'm a caring sort of bloke you know.

Really? Why? Would you be more concerned about a man walking towards you who's face you could see, or a man walking towards you in a ski mask?

Hey, if you're so ugly you don't want to show you're face in public that's okay but I doubt that that's the case with most British people who are hiding their faces. :wink:

It's a good point, but I still think that it (flag burning) should be discouraged.

Definately, but it's still someones right to do so as an act of dissent (until it becomes illegal!!). The question is what is more important, saving as much freedom as possible, or a piece of nylon that costs £2.99 from a sports store!
