"If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the back yard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it... whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered meat? The uncovered meat is the problem."
He added: "If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab [Islamic headscarf], no problem would have occurred."
According to this, this imam says that if a woman chooses not to wear the hijab and dares go out in public, then she deserves to be raped.
Not only should he "apologize" he should step down from his position as a spiritual leader, and be kicked out of Islam too. |

Yes you see, this is more of the same.
Outrage over cartoons - hundreds of thousands march, burn things, etc. Heretical and extremist Muslims blatantly killing in the name of Islam? - Zero... zip... nada.
This is the hypocrisy we live in and have to deal with. |

exactly. there are many people who hold that view, rightly or wrongly. i have been in many debates with people over this very issue, and i am suprised by how many people would put a lot of blame on a woman dressing provocatively as it being her fault if she was raped. i dont believe it be true, these figures go quite a few years back, but i was watching a debate where one woman actually quoted that around 80% of women raped are in their own homes by someone they actually know.
is this big news now because a muslim cleric has said it? many more have been saying it for a loooooooooong time, and many people all over the globe, east and west believe that line of thought as well. |

Yeah, but remember, this is coming from the same people that tell young men to blow themselves up in Isreali diners and kidnap journalists so they can decapitate them. |

So in effect, he just proved himself right by repeating some words written long ago (repeating, mind you), then watching the heathens all go out and break stuff. I'd say it worked. He made his point for sure, and the muslims helped him all the way.
Why is it that they don't clean up their own backyard? |

This isn't a Muslim problem -- its a societal one. We're in a period where the victim is too blame for everyone. Why do we need changes in policy and safety net programs if we can blame everything on the victims?
Not only are women being blamed for "enticing" rapists -- but we blame the poor for being poor, the unemployed for being unemployed, and the sick for being sick. |

It's disgusting.
Just when I am convinced those morons are a thousand years behind the times, they go and prove I was under estimating their ignorance. |

| He lives in america, where it's *never* the "victim's" fault. Some burglar falls on a kitchen knife? It's not his fault. Some guy is lazy and doesn't want to work? It's "society's" fault he's unemployed. Someone's poor..it's because they are a drunk, and that's not their fault either. Someone takes a shower with a toaster..it should have had a warning label on it. Did you know electricity is dangerous? I'm reminded of that every time I buy an extension cord now. I think that's who Kamel's talking about. |

Try to stay on subject, rather than trying to bury it. This Imam directly stated that its the woman's fault she gets raped. Its not society stating this -- Society is outraged, particularly in Australia where this guy is from.
Its disgusting, and just a further reminder of how backwards some people are. Oh, and comparing this to what the Pope said is outrageous -- The Pope quoted someone to state how they were WRONG. This guy states something HIMSELF that he claims IS TRUE. Kinda straightforward. |

yes, and i happen to be one of thos 1.6 billion who follow that religion, yet as i stated above i totally disagree with that comment and the thinking behind it. that is one muslims cleric, i am sure that many more say the same stuff, but it is based on opinion, not on anything written in the quran, not in the practice of islam itself. and i've had this argument with many people before, muslim and non muslims and those who come up with the pathetic excuse that any woman deserves getting raped if she is wearing provocative clothing then theyre are idiots and have no emotion for what rape would do to a person, so how can they find excuses for it and blame it on the woman. it is opinion, it is not one of the 6 pillars of islam, so dont worry. |

First off this man is the senior cleric for muslims in the nation of austraila not just some cleric.
So again why isn't he removed from this post as the senior Imam in the Great nation of Austraila if so many muslims don't agree, find it disgusting, and are outraged by this kind of comment/thinking? |
