What do you believe happens to us after we die?

I believe that the soul will either go to heaven or hell.

I don't believe in god but I also don't believe that you just see black for eternity. I think that right now you are in a host body, you control it and do with it what you like, when you die you loose control, you gradually loose contact with the body as you rot, or you loose contact very very fast if your cremated. I don't believe in the soul rather after you loose control over this body you will assume control over something else, maybe a human, maybe a squirrel, maybe an being from another planet completely oblivious to humanity's existence. When you transfer bodies I believe you don't have any memory or anything like that, a new mind, a new fresh start... I just don't want to believe I will be staring at nothing slowly slipping into madness for the rest of existence.

I think we are like elements.

You can not be destroyed mentally.

Once you loose your body you will find something new but it will probably take a very long time since their are billions of us just floating around but that doesnt matter since we have no idea of time.

I believe that after we die, our bodies decompose (unless cremated).

As for the after life, I'll tell you if/when I get there.

I've never understood the concept that somepeople have equating death to "seeing black" for the rest of time.

Let me ask this: you sleep usually for 8 hours. Do you ever remember having 8 hours worth of dreams? You shouldn't. You only have 3 15 minute REM periods in the average 8 hour sleep cycle.

That means 7.25 hours are spent in non REM sleep. Do you remember "seeing black" during that time?

I know when I sleep, I lay there for a while, then I have a dream, which seems like one long conscious event, and then I wake up.

I have no recollection of what happens inbetween REM times even though that is a good 2-3 hours spent in non REM sleep.

It passes by instantaneously.

So why do people think that?

The very instant you die you will hear a loud boom of sorts, seemingly off in the distance. You will feel it more than hear it. You will be above your body, standing, floating, whatever you wish to call it and everything will seem 'normal' around for a short period of time. Pain will seem to slip away from you slowly. You will feel weightlessness take over and cold begin to surround you.

Blackness will appear from the blackest points in the area that you can visualize. The black will become more and more until there is nothing around you but a void of space. No floor, no walls, not even time exists in this void. From the distance you will see what looks like people and in fact that is just what they are, people who have died as well. They will come to you but will not touch you. They will scare you but will not harm you. If you speak the name of a God or that of anything considered holy, religious, or about God in general, these people will run from you back into the void.

If you are religious in anyway shape or form you will, at a length of 'time' see a pinhole of light in the void. This light is God. If you are not religious, or simply athiest, you can still see the light if you can so much as fathom a higher power. This light will grow to consume the void and you will then begin seeing familiar faces of those who you knew in life. They will look their best. If they died at the age of 78, they will look 30 years old. If they died at the age of 12, the will look 12. They along with another 'spirit' will greet you with the intentions of calming you with the realization of your passing at hand. As you calm you will be greeted by this other spirit who we will call Jesus, for the sake of arguement.

Jesus will hold you without touching you, he will look at you without eyes, and he will love you even if you lived your life hating and discounting his image and meaning. You will then review your life as it was, from beginning to end. All of your worst failures, mistakes, and 'sins' will be reviewed by your heart and that of Jesus. As well all of your kindness, love and care will speak volumes about you. This review isn't for Jesus, it is for you. You will judge yourself. With Jesus by your side it will be impossible for you not to understand the point of judging one's self.

After the review you will be given a choice depending on how you died. If you body remains intact, capable of sustaining life, you will be given the choice to go back. Most after discovering the truth about 'life' after death choose not to go back to the world of pain and misery. Your other choice is to stay in Heaven to grow as a source of energy of love, or you can go back and use another life to help merge heaven and earth once and for all.

The most likely answer is that you will go back to the state you were in before you were born, which could be just about anything including the most obvious state of nothing at all...

I believe that the soul lives on beyond death... and that there's a wide world of possible places for it to end up-- from the halls of the gods you worship, to peaceful planes of reflection and rest, to places of combat and places of torment.

I believe that every so often, every living person and every soul of a formerly living person must fight in a great war that destroys the current universe-- including all of the afterlives-- and establishes the conditions of a new one, based on who won the war and how well they fought.

We end. It is hard to accept, it is difficult to comprehend the total obliteration of all we have done and seen and lived, but I believe it happens. It makes everything more meaningful when you remember every once in a while that we only live once, and life is a fragile thing, but if you treat it as one, you will never live.

Truth is about the truth that until one has died and come back to life no one knows for sure if there is an after life or not.

Seconded.

Immediately after death, if we die in a state of sinless grace, we will go to the bosom of God to await the Second Coming. If we die in a state of venial sin, we will go to Purgatory to atone for this sin. If we die in a state of mortal sin, we will be given a final opportunity to see our faults and repent. If we persist in our lack of faith, we will be banished to Hell.

At the Second Coming, all of us will be reunited with our resurrected bodies. Those in heaven or in Purgatory will be reunited on a new Earth, remade perfect to live in peace forever. Those condemned will be sent to Hell to be tormented by their seperation from God's grace forever.

All I can say is ... " UNBELIEVABLE!" If your creator bestowed you with the abilities of critical thought and common sense, how can anyone, of any intelligence whatsoever, abandoned these things to believe in such non sensical faith based garbage!!! How people have been fooled into such a fairy tale, truly is astounding. I mean if God, the creator, gave you those abilities to use, USE them! Dont stop using them because a MAN tells you that is what you are susposed to do!!! Then he asks you for money!!! Come.. on....!!! Please, people think about that!! God gives us an ability to use, a man tells you not to, and to trust him and repent. Who do you think is wrong!!!???? God? Or the guy at the front of the room in the funny outfit passing the collection plate? Please wake up!!!

Come come, you act like I am the first person to say something like this and the first time you've ever read something like this. Despite what your brain is doing matters little to the world we live in let alone the truth.

It doesnt matter if you think it is bulls**t in the end, now does it?

Here is a website full of people who have died and come back, and wrote down what happen for all to read and critique with their critical eyes.

I'll be the first to admit my post is a bit 'out there' I mean who'd believe such a thing. I guess you'd have to go through it before you will believe it.

Ultimatly though, it doesn't matter what you believe now? Even if you knew the absolute truth, you still have to go through it, you still have to die, so in essence it matters not what you know now. Its not like you can prepare for it. Pack a lunch, gas up the car or anything like that.

I will say this in reference to 'blackness after death'.. if that is what you want to see, that is what you will see. But don't worry, you will not be alone in that.

Those near death experiences is nothing more than "near death" experiences. They experience those things while they are still living.
