How many of us actually wondered what the assault weapons ban actually entailed. This in my opinion is a very good source for an accurate explanation as to what it entailed.

Also try your hand at the test at the very bottom of the link.
I think you might be surprised as to what is and what is not an assault weapon by current classifications of the bill.

Which guns are legal and which are illegal to own? (Answers at the bottom of the page)

Answers from top to bottom of photos:

#1.....legal to own
#2.....legal to own
#3.....legal to own
#4.....illegal to own
#5.....legal to own

Forgot the link to the test ...self edit

I thought they were legal as long as they were only semi-automatic rather than full-auto........

The assault weapons ban had nothing to do with full-auto. Those items were regulated in NFA of '34, and banned in FOPA of '86

They until until about two years ago. The Clinton Admin passed the 1994 Crime Bill, or also called the "assault weapons" ban. The ban restricted or completely banned certain features on semi-automatic guns.

Supposedly the ban was supposed to have a dramatic effect on crime, but when weapons that are used in 1%-2% of all gun crimes are banned the results are less than satisfactory.

The ban had a 10yr. sun set doate, Spt. 14 2004, the ban expired, adn the streets didn't run with blood as the anti-gun predicted.

The "assult weapons ban" at the federal level that has expired and the one inacted by the State of Califorina had nothing to do with full-auto or semi-auto. Fully automatics have been heavily regulated sense the 1930's (you need a class III firearms license to own one) and banned from import in the 1980's (so now only guns made beore 1988 are legal to own even with a class III license).

The assult weapons ban dealt only with certain features common on military surplus style semi-automatics. It made a weapon illegal to produce (but not to sell if produced before the ban wnet into law) that had more that 2 of the following features:
A) Detachable magazine
B) Flash suspressure (does not make teh flash any harder to see, it directs the muzzle flash away from the shooter reducing blowback of gases and flash on the shooter)
C) Pistol Grib
D) Bayonet Lug

To this day, putting a pistol grip on my shotgun will get me put in jail for a felony in Chicago. Notice how it doesnt' make the gun any more dangerous or effective..it just changes how it looks.

I love how the uneducated spout nonsense..I hear it all the time. "We need to get rid of those damn assault weapons!" Then I ask them what defines an assault weapon, and they tell me, "a machine gun."

the democrats generally use deceptive tactics because thier ultimate goal is to ban all guns. "Assault Wepons" are thier first step.
I dont belive in any gun control, the only thing I belive in is background checks.
