Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle, who was on the plane, is presumed dead, along with another person on the plane.
I don't know quite what to say, except that this seems like remarkably bad luck. It's October 11th. It's bound to be a shocker for everyone involved; and...what does it say of air safety in NY? |

| How the hell do you accidentally fly a plane into a building? I mean, jesus, was the pilot drunk or what? I know it sounds harsh, and this is probably too soon, but who ever was flying that plane, didn't need a pilots liscense. |

There was a mayday call prior to the crash, so it sounds like its leading towards a malfunction moreso than drunken piloting. |

My guess is that he tried a canyon turn and with the strong wind, ended up in the Class B surrounding the corridor. It is an extremely tight place to turn, and the wind would not have helped. There might have been an accelerated stall, involved, but to me, it looks like a canyon turn gone horribly wrong. |

flying a plane 101.
yaw is your rudder, and if your rudder goes, no more steering. |

Yes, I am a proficient pilot, however, you still have control of the plane without the rudder. The rudder is used to aid in turning and coordinating the turn, and while it can be used by itself to turn the plane in flight, it is mostly used in coordination with the ailerons. And it is highly doubtful that this plane lost its rudder, as it is a relativley new plane, and he most likely had a pre-buy inspection just before he bought it. It is highly doubtful that the rudder would have gone on the fritz, and even if it did, all he had to do was declare an emergency, climb into the Class B, and find a place to set it down. |

This is a sad event for Cory and his family/friends. He was a great man on and off the ballfield. Very charitable, loving father, and a great man all around. He will be missed.
My prayers go to his wife and family, as well the wife and family of the instructor who died as well. Cory's wife and the instructor's wife were together when this incident happened.
Too sad. |
