We've not had a "what's your favorite animal thread?" on here. I find that kinda odd, but I think I should start this off.
Anyway, I think komodo dragons are cool |

In the Audubon zoo in New Orleans they have a couple of nice sized Komodo dragons. When my youngest was about 2 we had a neat, but unsettling experience there. When he came up to the plexiglass, the komodos started perkingup--like I do when I smell barbecue, for instance. They started to react to him like prey.
My favorite animal, though, is probably the shark. |

Yeah sharks are seriously cool - Ya gotta admire the design comittee that came up with that concept. I always love the quote from Jaws, the only thing sharks do is eat and make little sharks.
I have always loved Kodiak bears.
We think we are an apex predator till we meet one of them things in the wild - then we learn real quick about the pecking order of nature.[/quote] |

We are apex predators. We can kill any other animal on earth. However, in nature, we do realize that we are comparatively small, weak and powerless (without tools) compared to the other major predators. |

I always admired raptors. They would be my 2nd choice if I were going to study animals. Snakes are also very interesting, particularly the cobra. More recently I have become drawn to sharks. They are amazing. But I still ranks whales/dolphins/porpoises at the top. They run the range of extremely social to solitary. They are extremely intelligent (some studies even think they are self aware), gentle yet powerful, graceful yet originally evolved from a fierce creature, curious and mysterious.... |

Quite a few animals on earth can kill us, whether we're in nature or not. Some of which we can't even see right.
Ever seen one of these? |

I agree. As far as just physicality, humans are quite small, and certainly quite weak in comparison to most predators. I might even go so far as to say we are physically weaker than more than half of all animals, and would get whipped by most of them.
But unfortunately for the other animals, where they have their claws, and power, and teeth, we need only our mighty brains. With our brains...we defeat all animals! Animals pwned.
I think cats are my favorite animal. Yes, I like cats.

One day some animals were proclaiming their greatness due to the size of their broods. The cow, the fox, and the rabbit all chimed in about their numerous offspring.
The lioness stood silently by. Rabbit scornfully challenged the lioness to name how many children she has borne.
Lioness says, "Only one...but it's a lion."
