but it does. it's how our mind works. grouping things together is the brains most basic way of "keeping tabs".
now i'm not saying rampant racism(I.E. black panthers, KKK) should be tolerated. but you justh ave to deal with the less intense forms. |

Well, you've made some pretty good points there.
But this doesn't mean you can't try to educate the people about these types of things...... |

oh i agree.
children should be taught to not be racist pricks to one another.
it's just things like stereotyping(minor forms of it)that are here for the stay. |

I guess I mostly agree with that, racism can't ever be entirely wiped out, though I'd like to believe otherwise and my incredible optimism is preventing me from agreeing entirely. |

The Newb wrote: me and some fellow soldiers were having a discussion on racism when one of our black freinds stated that blacks were still being oppressed by society. i asked him how he could think that, when society as a whole caters to those of the minority races, such as hiring minorities over equally qualified whites, minority history months, martin luther king day, amoung others.
he thought i was going to far, but then i asked him if a white man suggested a white history month what the outcome from the minority community would be? at that point he couldnt say much.
now i am by far not a racist, however i would like to see your veiws on this subject
I dont think society caters to minorities, i think there are many policies that are trying to address the inhernt unequalness is society and within the system. If they were being simply just carted too, then there wouldnt be such a high rate of poverty among minorities, the fact that are prisions are filled with an unproportional ammount of minorities, or that there is one black senator in congress?
In what instance are companies hiring unqualified people of color over white people who are qualified? There is no affirmative action? There are no quotas to be met?
Its a sad fact we need history months dedicated to minorities, because every day still the majority of history we get is White history. The major emphasis of history in the US is of white people and western history as a whole.
Martin Luther King Jr. was a great person, we dont celebrate him just becaues he ws black, we clebrate him for his accomplishments. the US still recognizes Christopher Columbus day, even though that makes the start of hte slave trade in the americas along with the genocide of so many native peoples.
I dont believe in reserse racism. Alot of minorities are getting help yeah, but there are still vast inequalities none the less. |
