me and some fellow soldiers were having a discussion on racism when one of our black freinds stated that blacks were still being oppressed by society. i asked him how he could think that, when society as a whole caters to those of the minority races, such as hiring minorities over equally qualified whites, minority history months, martin luther king day, amoung others.
he thought i was going to far, but then i asked him if a white man suggested a white history month what the outcome from the minority community would be? at that point he couldnt say much.
now i am by far not a racist, however i would like to see your veiws on this subject |

| They get away wth it because if you question it you get called a racist. Helluva double standard, cant really do anything about it, at this point. |

I think you have to think about deeper meaning behind those events for minorities. It serves many purposes for a society otherwise heavily influenced by the most dominant group of people and their culture.
I personally view them as a part of appeasement and assimilation processes. |

Racism = Racism.
The reason that "reverse racism" exists is because people feel it "necessary to atone for past prejudices". |

Agreed. And it is possible to be racist against whites: its called affirmative action, just have a company that doesn't hire any white people. |

| Racism as become engrained in our culture. Not the overtly racist acts of the KKK or Black Panthers but a more subtle racism. Affirmative Action was designed to help minorities who could not get hired by whites. That is a noble idea but think about. It is basically stating that minorities need the governments help to get hired because they are not good enough to get hired on their own merits. I know there are people who would not hire a specific minority no matter what but lets face it, the bulk of people who own a bussiness are going to hire the best person for the job regardless of race. We need to get the government to stop institutionalizing racism as programs such as AA can lead to remarks such as "she only got that job because she is black". Remove AA and all of a sudden there is no reason she got the job other than being the best qualified person. |

Racism is racism, if you "reverse" it it's the same thing just in a different direction. Discrimination against all races exists to some extent in one form or another.
As for the month thing, I think all "Whatever History Months" are pretty stupid. Black History Month is like saying that you should learn about blacks who did something important in this month, so there's no reason to focus on it other times of the year, I imagine it's tremendously annoying for elementary school teachers who would like to teach their students about blacks in the Revolutinary War or whatever but know that they'll be expected to do it again in February even though they're doing the Revolutionary War in October or whatever. |

everyone is racist to everyone else for everything.
it's just the way society is and you have to learn to deal with it. |

You don't know everyone in the world, for one thing, so that's your first mistake there. Second, not every single stereotype can be verified or justified. Third, and most important IMO, stereotyping us just an excuse to not like people. |

do you deny it's human nature to put people into groups according to looks, race, or disabilities? |

I'd be lying if I said it wasn't human nature to do so. But that doesn't make it justified. |
