Sounds like a Chicken or Egg argument.
therefore the question is...
which do you want to be, the chicken or the egg?
:-D
sorry, being getting surreal posts recently, so thinking in surreal terms

Actually the more important question is which came first?

Btw, we can go on and on about rude American tourists, BUT German Tourists FTW.

A quote from Bill Hicks:

"Yeah I smoke so what? If you have a problem with it, I suggest you take a look around this world, and shut the f*** up."

or something to that effect. Read between the lines please, thanks.

NAB! Hey there, not to hijack the thread but I love how you worded your quote in your sig. I used to say that same to a degree.

I say and still think:

"Politics is like driving a car, if you go to far right you will never get there, if you go to far left, you have a head on collision."

I like your's better, I am sure you do to, lol.

Good day.

Behold, the trifecta of preconceived notions Americans have about the French: Smoke cigarettes, Rude, and Dirty. I can't say I blame them much considering what the average Frenchman thinks about Americans. Ignorance and cheap unfounded generalizations abound on both sides of the Atlantic.

Grazie. Props back at ya for using a quote from the late, great Bill Hicks.

France? Ban smoking? Yeah, right. Next thing you know, they'll be banning Cheese! This is all leading up to something dangerous here. Like the French actually being nice to other people, showing respect for others, and using Deodorants. What's next French Fries?

What's this supposed to accomplish anyway? It's a stupid legislation and I hope it fails.

What is going on here?

I don't think I understand this logic considering France's continuing lean towards the extreme left in their political views, and individual rights is something that the French value exteremly highly.

Quite frankly, I think it's stupid. The ban doesn't include streets, so what's the point? It's just encouraging people to go outside?

Pollution can be regulated. Smoking is pollution.

So I guess they should ban wood fires and barbeques too, if that's the actual logic behind it.

It's illegal to smoke in public in NY? Huh, I guess we're lucky nobody told us to put our cigars out in Times Square; that would've s*cked. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. And yeah, this trend is popular. For some reason, liberals have a thing against smoking (so do some rightists, but they are by far in the minority). California's really big on this, and two cities have banned smoking OUTDOORS and in any place other than your car or residence illegal. I understand baning smoking in certain places under certain conditions, but people have gotten outrageously rediculous on the matter.

It's disturbing, to say the least. And it's also laughable. If it's for health reasons, there's plenty of crap in the air that will kill you, for polution reasons, huge dry brush areas in Ca burn annually, that's smoke, not to mention all the BBQs that are lit everywhere every weekend, which release deadly carbon monoxide into the air, not to mention smog. For reasons of being polite to non-smokers, that's a laugh, those **** cough at me, make snide comments, and the other day some **** yanked the cig from my lips and stomped it, so to hell being polite to those intolerant F**K**.

Yeah so is the exhaust from a car, airplane and furnace, but we don't see them banning any of those though do we.

Transport is necessary.
People have to be able to get from A to B.

If you read the OP's posted article, you will note that smoking is only banned in indoor public places.

To quote the OP's article:

Quote: Public places include stations, museums, government offices and shops, but not streets or private places such as houses or hotel rooms.

I am all for the smoking ban in confined spaces. I used to work in a bingo hall when I was a kid. The fat old ladies would come in and fill the air with their smoke and shout out 'shuffle yer balls' at me.

Smokers do not understand that they stink. Not as bad as a tramp, but it is still pretty unpleasant. Anyhoo, at the end of the day, I went home with sore throught from the old biddy smoke.

So Ban it in work places such as pubs and trains, but allow it on street corners outside where the wind will blow the stink to Russia.

Limey Boosk: I have no problem with the ban of smoking indoors. Even when I was a smoker, I at least had the courtesy not to smoke in restaurants where other people wanted to enjoy their meal without smelling the odor of smoke. It is disgusting to many, and I respected their wishes as a means of showing, not all of us, as smokers were uncaring, or beligerent with demanding our freedom to smoke whereever we wanted.
Most of all. Since I quit smoking. My family has enjoyed the clean, fresh air they didn't enjoy when I....as the king of my home, thought I was more important than they were, and would do anything I wanted, because I paid the bills.
I never, however. Ever went into anyone's home and lit up, but rather went outside if I absolutely needed to smoke.
If more smokers showed a greater respect for others wherever they happen to be. Maybe there would be NO NEED to ban smoking in the first place.

Pretty much took the words out of my mouth. I'm an ex-smoker, and when I was smoking I tried to deal with my vice in the most courteous way I could. I would always step out side, never smoked in front of young kids, and if I was in a situation where I wanted to smoke in front of non-smokers (say a bar), I always asked if they minded in a non-confrontational manner so they would give me a straight answer. I never even smoked in my own house so it wouldn't smell.

I'm glad I quit, but you can be a smoker and not offend non-smokers. It just takes some common courtesy on your part.
