It's all in the 'I'm scared, why am i the one that has to do something -- stuff it, I'll leave it to someone else' line of thought.
It's all very well in advance thinking 'Well I WOULD have the balls to try and stop it if I was part of the crowd' -- but until you're actually there I think it's hard to even guess at how you'd act in a completely alien, hostile and damn scary environment.
(Apparently if you are there with your partner you are least likely of all to interject -- as you both mutually stop the other person from getting involved. Some evolutionary thing.)
I read that same stat some time back. Me personally! I have the mindset that if I witness a crime being committed then I am going to do what I can to stop it. Since I pack a gun most of the time guess what.... bad guy will stop. But that is my personal choice. So if I come upon a crime (say rape) being committed guess which part of his anatomy is going away if he fails to stop with a gun barrel in his ass. |
