How do you feel about Fred Phelps, and the people at Westboro Baptist Church? Do you feel that what they are doing is wrong? Right?
Thoughts, please.

I have never, in my life, met anybody, Christian or other, that has condoned, or even agreed with, Fred Phelps.
There's a reason that like 99% of his "parish" is made up of his family. |

Fred Phelps is a registered Democrat who once ran for governor of Kansas and who is a lawyer (along with his entire family) who antagonizes people until they attack him, so he can sue them.
He started off "representing" minorities as a civil rights lawyer, but scammed so many folks no one in the community.
would hire him anymore. So he changed tactics to the one he uses now.
He has made himself rich sueing people he antagonized into attacking him.
His organization consists of his family and is more of a cult of personality led by a dominating and abusive psychopath than anything else. The man is a common criminal.
Read his entire sordid story here.

Yes and yes. Well my answer wouldn't be very christian so I'd rather not respond....
P.S. It would definitely be Anti-Phelps  |

They want money. Not attention.
The guy used to send his kids out to sell candy door to door and steal stuff when they are small.
Something talls me they aren't going any where anytime soon. |

no they dont need money they have 6 federal lawyers that are with them and are a rich family, its publicity
Quote: Trained as a lawyer, Fred Phelps was disbarred in 1979 by the Kansas Supreme Court, which asserted that he had "little regard for the ethics of his profession." The formal complaint against Phelps charged that he misrepresented the truth in a motion for a new trial in a case he had brought, and that he held the defendant in the case up to "unnecessary public ridicule for which there is no basis in fact." Following his disbarment from Kansas State courts, Phelps continued to practice law in Federal courts. In 1985, nine Federal court judges filed a disciplinary complaint charging him and six of his family members, all attorneys, with making false accusations against them. The Phelpses fought the complaint but lost. In 1989, Fred Phelps agreed to surrender his license to practice law in Federal court in exchange for the Federal judges allowing the other members of his family to continue practicing in Federal court. |

Quote: The guy used to send his kids out to sell candy door to door and steal stuff when they are small. That's flippin' despicable. This seem to be catching on. A preacher from an "independent" (not sure if that is the right word or not) baptist church in Ohio did that a couple years ago. He closed his church immediately once it was made public. Very sad.
About Phelps - he isn't really worth anyone's time. As said previously, I don't' know of anyone (christian or not) my area here that agrees with him and his tactics. He had one of his church members on the radio for an interview one morning. It was as if she had a split personality: she could be really nice and sweet, then snap in an instant and start spouting all kinds of crazy stuff. It was almost like a bad acting audition.... |

| OK - I was wondering. I don't understand these people, and can't for the life of me, understand how they can claim to be Christians and then be so full of hate and anger. |

I have heard and read them as saying that God isn't love (as the saying goes "God is Love"), he is hatred and they like to use the 'angry Old Testament God' as their example to defend their actions and beliefs. |

From an outsider's standpoint, I don't consider them Christian. |

I think Phelps is a liberal atheist, who pretends to be a Christian in order to make Christians look stupid.
Regardless, the man is off his rocker, and I don't know of a single Christian who agrees with any of his tactics and views. |

They're sick or brainwashed - take your pick. Definitely hateful people. Besides hating gays, besides relishing the death of our military, they hate Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Mormons, you name it.
These people know nothing of God. It's pathetic, really, seeing such hate in the name of any religion, but just as with many a terrorist, they are absolutely convinced they are doing God's work.
Here's a clip of Phelps' daughter when she was on Hannity and Colmes:

Well, if you read the link to an expose of the guy in my other post you will see why this is.
The guy beat his children with a mattock handle to punish them if they pissed him off. It's one of the worse cases of child abuse I've ever heard of. He literally brain washed these kids.
The expose has info from two of his sons who found the strength to leave.
Unfortunately the statute of limitations had run out on his crimes and he couldn't be prosecuted for them.
The guy really deserves a life sentence for all the stuff he's done. But the problem is he is a brilliant lawyer, and his kids are probably the best 1st amendment lawyers in the country.
Oh yeah, one of the things he did is force them all to become lawyers.
Phelps was headed to West Point when he became a preacher. Which is probably for the best because with his mind, ability, and will power the guy would probably be running the pentagon now.
It's really much better for the world that he is doing what is is doing, ironically.
Read the expose, his case study is truly bizarre. |

Woman: "The cup of the fury and wrath of god to your lips and making you drink."
Hannity: "You're obviously a nut."
 I agreed with something Hannity said!
Colmes: "Shirly, What's the matter with you?"
 |
