From the mouth of the New York Times:

Quote: With Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice traveling to the region next week, Mr. Bush should give her an explicit mandate to press Israel, and not just the Palestinians, for real compromises. He should also give her the authority to talk to adversaries, and not just friends, about how to support the effort.

For a newspaper that's supposed to be pro-Israel this piece sounds remarkably balanced and sensible. But will anything come of it?

I doubt Israel will comply, but considering that the U.S. is the only power that Israel (might) listen to, I'm giving Israel the benefit of doubt on this one.

....pro-israel? wow. The New York times is the most unbiased and liberal newspaper in the US. It is very much anti-Israel, but very unbiased so it is my paper of choice.

I actually find a lot of pro-Israel bias in the NYT, but that's just me.
