I don't think it's the unions. Your article even points to health care costs, which the republicans have allowed to run sky high.
Healthcare coverage is now a luxury for the American who, after all, is the one who gives up 40+ hours per week so the wealthy get wealthier...oftentimes in conditions which are not healthy.
The unions helped fight against what the corporations are doing now....hiring slave labor from Mexico to do jobs in construction, landscaping, hotels and restaurants..the only jobs left in this nation after all the outsourcing Bush and the Republican Congress has done....

I think the loss of good paying jobs is being reflected in this nation in the number of American families now in the poverty level range of this nation...and that number is growing as more and more FTAs are generated by Bush...

As a nation which should be leading people out of poverty, or not increasing the poverty rate, we have fallen back into the rankings internationally on standard of living.

When you have a reduction in the quality of life, the middle class and the ability to have a healthy population through affordable health care, you are indeed not a great nation anymore. |

They may hurt company profits but they're good for the workers. |

Simply put, you have a situation where American quality of life skyrocketed over many other countries in the world. So now that those countries can support our industries, work is going to those countries, where costs are cheaper.
This is why I put it on our government. Free trade is great, as long as American interests are maintained. I don't see that anymore when I see our blue-collar labor -- almost all of it -- going overseas. |

As I already said:
Quote: I have nothing against workers acting as a collective in order to negotiate more benefits from employers.
Do you both honestly not understand that if the company goes out of business, all that the union worked for is for not?
What are you going to do after they go bankrupt? Make the government force them to still pay the workers benefits? |

So you're saying we should close up shop at the ports?
Stop bringing in anything not made in America? |

Yeah somehow these people are working against their will
All they want is a better life and I don't give a f**k if some American looses their job because of them. If they want to work for money less than you, good for them.
But hey what do I know, my dream job is to be a Union Buster. |
