I expect the cops to act like professionals.

Just my belated two cents here.

I have ZERO problem with having 500 officers all looking for someone who killed a cop. No problem whatsoever. Their occupation is hazardous enough without NOT reacting with extreme force when someone kills a cop. If/when they react like they did in this instance, maybe at least a couple of the smarter criminals who are paying attention will realize what's in store for them if they kill a cop, thereby keeping the police a little bit safer overall.

With that said, I hope they pulled off-duty officers for it so that all of the other issues were being handled. I'd only be mad if they disregarded other crimes being committed to focus on this one incident.

Florida Police Shot Suspected Cop Killer 68 Times
Sunday, October 01, 2006

Angilo Freeland — who was suspected of fatally shooting the deputy after being pulled over for speeding Thursday — was hit 68 times by the SWAT team members' shots, the examination released Saturday showed.

He also was suspected of wounding a deputy and killing a police dog.

Freeland's death ended a nearly 24-hour manhunt that forced schools to lock down and families to stay indoors as about 500 officers scoured the woods.

"I suspect the only reason 110 rounds was all that was fired was that's all the ammunition they had," Judd said. "We were not going to take any chance of him shooting back."

A manhunt of 500 officers? Shot 68 times? Why? Because he was a common murderer? No, because he killed a cop.

How many murders are there each day in this country? How many of them get a manhunt consisting of 500 officers?

While I have no objections to hunting down murderers like the animals they are, this incident was absurdly excessive. When any civilian is murdered, they usually do as they were trained. When a cop is killed, they deploy like an army going to battle. They act like the anti-Christ has come. What a joke.

:arhhg: this really ticks me off! out of 110 rounds, they only hit the bastard 68 times! thats some lousy shootin! 1/3 of those bullets were waisted. :bang:

Aside from the previously mentioned reasons, a good reason which justifies the use of a higher effort made by law enforcement to stop ( kill/arrrest) a cop killer is that a cop killer is probably more dangerous to civilians than a non cop killer.

You track the wounded bear, before you track the wounded badger.

Aside from their probably more extreme abberant mental state , anyone that shoots a cop has stepped way over the 'nothing left to lose " line, and has to be stopped before the snapped shear pin in their head causes more blood to spill-cop, bystander, or other taxppayer.

The only minor correction I see that may be required is some officers may benefit from more time at the gun range, since only 68 of 110 rounds fired hit the copkiller. All 110 should be in his corpse, but I wouldn't criticize those firing: maybe hard to put them all on target due to circumstances-combat shooting, maybe distance, bush, etc......

Good job of keeping your citizens safe, Florida law enforcement, and handling a situation that could have resulted in more innocent deaths.

This was both unneccessary and unprofessional in my opinion. It does not take anything near 500 officers to search for one man, and many of those cops would have been of much better use doing their jobs elsewhere and fighting other crime. How many 911 callers were told that no units were available? This, in part, shows a lack of discipline, as does their shooting. For allwe know (it is possible) the shooter was surrendering and the cops killed him anyways; such things happen often. Also, I'm quite sure that he was dead or incapacitated after a few rounds. It does not take 110 rounds to kill a man, even one on drugs of that were the case. This shows a lack of discipline and professionalism. It is also a double standard, as they wouldn't do anything close to this to catch anyone else, another unprofessional thing.
