Florida Police Shot Suspected Cop Killer 68 Times

Angilo Freeland — who was suspected of fatally shooting the deputy after being pulled over for speeding Thursday — was hit 68 times by the SWAT team members' shots, the examination released Saturday showed.
He also was suspected of wounding a deputy and killing a police dog.
Freeland's death ended a nearly 24-hour manhunt that forced schools to lock down and families to stay indoors as about 500 officers scoured the woods.
"I suspect the only reason 110 rounds was all that was fired was that's all the ammunition they had," Judd said. "We were not going to take any chance of him shooting back."
A manhunt of 500 officers? Shot 68 times? Why? Because he was a common murderer? No, because he killed a cop.
How many murders are there each day in this country? How many of them get a manhunt consisting of 500 officers?
While I have no objections to hunting down murderers like the animals they are, this incident was absurdly excessive. When any civilian is murdered, they usually do as they were trained. When a cop is killed, they deploy like an army going to battle. They act like the anti-Christ has come. What a joke. |

Not a joke.
Instilling a healthy fear, of killing cops, allows them to better perform thier job. The more criminals that KNOW one thing you shouldnt do is kill a cop, the better.
<edit>
This is assuming he was guilty of said crime. |

One or two bullets should take down anybody....but 68 times?
That was unnecessary. Cops must either like their jobs too much or just felt like unloading a whole round or six. |

| How long does it take to shoot 68 times with the gun he had? Wouldn't the guy be clearly dead by then? |

Although I agree about the 68 times being excessive, I don't think that is what's really important. They had 500 officers all hunting for this guy, why can't they show that much devotion and enthusiasm for all the other murderers and not just the cop killers? |

Not if it would make me look like a trigger happy lunatic from the wild west, and at the same time make it clear to the people that the cops only get motivated when it's one of their own.
Edit- Actually this is a bad reply. Let me restate it. I absolutely would go after him. I wouldn't however, take 500 officers away from their job when only a few are needed. And I certainly wouldn't do something that I wouldn't do to capture any other murderer. |

Yes I would, but I'd only take 2 or 3 shots, instead of wasting all of that ammo. |

I think you edit is the key. Police are not authorized to judge and convict criminals. I am not saying that they shouldn't protect themselves or that they don't have the ability to shoot back or protect themselves. I think we just need to exercise a bit of caution here because we don't want to Judge Dred the system. |

Because they value cop's life more then anyone elses. Nothing you or me can do about it.
Also, if you look at most of cop killers are killed by cops in persuit. That should tell you that cops are hunting cop killers with intent to kill and not to arrest. If it's a serial killer then they would probably arrest him (like all others), but not a cop killer. Not saying that's wrong, but it seems prejudice and unprofessional and almost like a wild west. |
