Ive been thinking that so many people seem to have someone they fear or hate or at least in some way like to vilify. Sometimes its race based (I just dont get that one) sometimes its religious(Ill admit I got a thing against Muslims) or political(Democratic leaders are a notch or two above Alqiada) it can be the world bank, corporations, the cub scouts, Christian fundamentalists or the gay agenda, it just seems that most people have a group that they work them selves up over and so often it goes far beyond being totally rational. I wonder if its because life for us has gotten so easy that we need the adventure of believing that someone is out to get us or destroy our way of life. I can admit that Osama has made life more interesting for me. I love to read about Islam and predict the path that this world might take if we dont confront radical Islam. but in reality, the chances of it effecting me directly anytime soon is slim to none. I can even admit that if the Dems take all three branches( God forbid) living in the new Peoples Republik of Amerika wouldnt be that bad. Im not saying that there are not very real reasons to be concerned about some groups, but dont you think we can get a little carried away?
1)Who's your bogeyman? 2) Are they really that much of a threat? 3 Why do we do it? 4)when do we cross the line? or any other thoughts you might have. |

Whell bush is a sell out to the establishment, that is big business. So, my despise for Bush comes from my dispisement for big business.
Why I despise Big Business? Because they can and will do anything to get money. They can bribe politicians and pay for their lawyers, they control the media, and they are trying to establish an aristocracy, and an 1984 like society.
My fears may be irrational, but I am starting to believe them. |

Then agian, when he does come, it won't matter anymore, anyway.
Live life without fear, otherwise you might as well be dead. |

I have four "boogeymen," and my fear of them is perfectly rational and justified.
Socialists.
Federalists.
Authoritarians.
Theocrats. |

| Why would you fear Federalists? They are in favor of decentralization of the government, i.e. federalism. |

thanks for the honesty, I wasnt sure if anyone would be willing to admit that. I bet youre happy to see all the prosecutions of all the crooks of Enron, Delfi and Martha Stewart. |

| My Bogyman is me. If I die and go to heaven, and meet myself before the gate as I have been, and wanted to be, and enjoyed being, and hated being, I will give up on getting in and take myself to hell. If I could meet the self I have tried to become: understanding, ethical, edufied, patient, kind, and generous; then I might scout for a ladder. |

| Why be afraid of big business? They fend off one of my boogie-men, Communists. I don't want some slacker to get the same pay as me just because comrade Stalin says so. There is probably something I'm not getting about communism but what I don't understand I fear... Like solar eclipses. |

Why be afraid of communism? Almost everyone in society is at one point or another a carrier, and then a rider. People carry the old, sometimes, and the infirm, and children, and some times they carry the rich or the bureaucrats and the military. If it is slackers you despise, Capitalism makes them. People are left unemployed, or are made to retire without resources all the time. What choice have they but to slack off? If the rich could be persuaded to be less hoggish, and the poor could be allowed to work for their needs we could all slack off mightily, and be no worse except for the non stop party. |

| This is some amusing stuff. Most of what we fear is losing control. We fear our beliefs not being re-affirmed and so we hate and fear those who see things different. oh well, whatever passes the time best. |

In the Alexander Hamilton sense of the word. As in people with ideologies in line with the Federalist Party. Stronger, larger federal government, elastic interpretation of constitutional powers...

I say this knowing that you don't find very many Jeffersonian style Anti-federalists anymore - both major parties holding federal office like their power too much, it would seem. |

Not really, i have the same bogeyman, and what I see in those prosecutions is not any osrt of actual takedown of what is wrong with business, just a little cosmetic tinkering and weeding of the flock. |

| Most Federalists were not nearly as extreme as Hamilton. He also advocated at one point in time a Constitutional monarchy. While he was intelligent and had good things to say, the former reasons are why he's my least favorite founder. Most Federalists favored a central government that was very limited, but strong enough to be effective. |

No offence but it has as much to do with philosophy as asking 'whats your favorite type of choclate white or black?'. |

white! So none of the great philosophers had anything to say about prejudice, bigotry or fear of people who believe differently. to bad, if we understood these things better, we might settle our differences through dialog instead of bullets. |
